Through High Holy Haze
St. Unholyness

ST. UNHOLYNESS is extreme metal duo out of Bavaria. And, yes, technically it should be 'unholiness' but being technically correct isn't the point. In fact, the intentional misspelling kind of underscores the point—this is a deliberate defilement, it is a statement. And ST. UNHOLYNESS is all about making a statement, which I think most metalheads can get with. On December 25, 2025 ST. UNHOLYNESS made a statement many of their fans were waiting for, their debut album, "Through High Holy Haze."
Band founder, Christina Earlymorn says of the album: "This record is my life's scars turned into riffs. Every reflection off my chrome guitar is a reminder—you're stronger than the war you're fighting inside. ST. UNHOLYNESS is more than music—it's survival, it's rebellion, and it's style."
ST. UNHOLYNESS is bigger than their album—and that's how it should be—but this album does constitute a formative salvo. That being said, it is a debut album, a first step if you will. As a first step, it's pretty solid. It also establishes a strong position from which any number of trajectories can be transcribed. ST. UNHOLYNESS are at their best when they are just jamming, working a riff and filling all the space in between. Mac's bass playing is impressive, creating groove lines like moats and trenches which Christina dances over and carves through with her chrome plated axed.
Standout tracks in my book are "Black Tooth Brothers" and "Alchemist Blues" which both land mid-album. These feature heavy jams and few vocals. Vocals, I have to say, are the weakness of ST. UNHOLYNESS. I should explain. Christina as a vocalist excels when they lean into Black Metal banshee incarnation; they are less successful with less extreme styling. Christina has stated that with ST. UNHOLYNESS they wanted to step away from Black Metal and explore other subgenres, but as far as vocals I have to say, Black Metal is their niche.
Other standout tracks are "Hate Response" and "Loud and Proud." "Hate Response" is vehement BM rage. "Loud and Proud" sees ST. UNHOLYNESS go Thrash, complete with Mac contributing gang shouts. Doom fans are likely to favor the final track, also the title track, "St. Unholyness." Not on my list of standouts but distinctive enough for its boots-of-lead grind through the swamplands.
All in all, "Through High Holy Haze" is a solid debut for Christina Earlymorn's St. UNHOLYNESS. Metal fans of all kinds can find something in this album to enjoy from Doom to Stoner to Groove to Black, Christina touches on it all.
