Necrosupper
Spider Kickers
Since their inception in 1986, "SPIDER KICKERS" have been an inspiration in the Greek death/thrash metal scene. Their latest album, "Necrosupper", is a powerful testament to their enduring presence and evolution within the genre. With this release, the band continues to push the boundaries of their sound while remaining true to their Greek Death/Thrash Metal roots. "SPIDER KICKERS" have always prided themselves on their technical prowess, and "Necrosupper" is no exception. The album showcases this commitment in spades. Guitarists "Kostas Papadimitriou" and "Kostas Kalampokas" deliver an array of ferocious riffs and complex solos that are both brutal and captivating. Their playing is tight and precise, balancing aggressive thrash elements with the darker, more intricate aspects of death metal. Drummer and vocalist "James Edouarth" proves to be the driving force behind the album, with blistering double-bass patterns, Blast beats, and intricate fills that provide a formidable foundation for the tracks. He also brings a guttural intensity and varied vocal range that enhances the album’s raw energy, seamlessly shifting from deep growls to higher screams.
The production on "Necrosupper" is a polished affair, capturing the ferocity of "SPIDER KICKERS" sound while ensuring clarity. The mix is dynamic, with each instrument given room to explore. The guitars are sharp and aggressive, the drums are thunderous and precise, and the vocals are both powerful and intelligible. This balance exemplifies the album’s aggressiveness to come through while still highlighting the technical intricacies of the music. The album’s structure is a masterclass in balancing aggression with melody. Tracks like “As Blood Descends” and “Disturbing the Gods” feature a mix of relentless thrash rhythms and death metal’s crushing heaviness. The songwriting is both innovative and familiar, drawing on classic influences while incorporating fresh elements to keep the material engaging. The album’s pacing is well-considered, This album does not let up!, With more atmospheric sections providing a contrast to the blistering speed of the thrash sections. While "Necrosupper" pays homage to classic death/thrash metal, "SPIDER KICKERS" also infuses their sound with a modern edge. The incorporation of atmospheric interludes and complex song structures adds a layer of originality to their traditional sound. The band’s ability to blend old-school aggression with contemporary elements makes "Necrosupper" stand out in a crowded genre. A few of the bands I can hear in their arrangements are bands like Old School "Exodus", "Slayer", "Exciter", and a good dose of "Cannibal Corpse".
The artwork for "Necrosupper" is one of my favorites! Its a fitting visual representation of the album’s dark themes. The cover features a detailed, nightmarish cannibalistic scene that captures the essence of the music. The album’s presentation, including the artwork and layout, enhances the overall listening experience and adds to the immersive quality of the release.
