A Sea of Floating Mirrors

Soundscapism Inc.

This was a nice collection of songs that for me are just here to make you feel better. Melodies are smooth, simple, and easy to grasp, and there are hints of nostalgia here as well. Isn’t that warm feeling you get when listening the point of music in the first place?

From Bandcamp, "Welcome to SOUNDSCAPISM, INC., the solo project from Bruno A. It's music for the senses, music to lose yourself in, soundtracks for unmade movies. The album has nine songs, and "Venomous Hand of a Nightmare" is first. It begins with a pleasing, rousing melody that makes me long for yesteryear. The vocals are gentle and smooth, and there are keys mixed in with the guitars. "All the Rage" has a firmer backbone, and the title suggests. The production is just a bit cloudy so far…if it were clearer the album would be a better listen for me. Still, Bruno's melodies are sparkling. "Glimpse of the Infinite" is poignant, introspective, and emotional. Acoustic guitar brush across you like warm breath in the dark. It leaves you feeling warm…comforted…and in the presence of others.

"Rust and Sawdust" hears the pendulum swing back to dark and heavier tones, yet the positive melodies remain. There are some keyboards, and even some trumpet notes here. "Come Hell and High Water" has a swinging groove to it, and although the melody is simple, it's also very effective. This song has hooks. "Steamcity" has ambient and ethereal qualities…almost something that is partially hidden out of view. It has a steady, electronic beat that pulses like a pilot light. "Star-Crossed Lovers" has sentimental and nostalgic qualities in the same way that you pull a familiar blanket out of storage, and it still has that same smell that you remember fondly. The lead guitar breaks are right in line with the melody as well.

"Liptstick Smiles on Death Masks" closes the album, and it's the longest, clocking in at seven minutes. The melodies are well-constructed. They move forward with ease throughout the song, and are supported by backing elements like lead breaks and keyboards. This was a nice collection of songs that for me are just here to make you feel better. Melodies are smooth, simple, and easy to grasp, and there are hints of nostalgia here as well. Isn't that warm feeling you get when listening the point of music in the first place?
