Metal maniacs, rejoice! I am proud to present to you: SORROW ENTHRONED; independently unsigned, hailing from the United States of America - performing Black/Death Metal, on their 2nd EP entitled: "The Grave Of Endless Writhing" (released June 9th, 2021). Since formation in 2019; the soloist in question have 2 EPs: "To Walk As One With The Dead" (released August 6th, 2019), and this here 2nd deliverance entitled: "The Grave Of Endless Writhing". On top of 2 Full-length albums entitled: "The Embrace Of Nocturnal Sorrow" (released January 3rd, 2020), and "Thelemic Grimoires" (released November 6th, 2020) - 9 tracks ranging at around 24:07, SORROW ENTHRONED arrange an intricately designed formula of some heavy-hitting Black/Death Metal amalgamations.
Opening up with this deathly hymn, "There Is No God, But The God Of Death" synthesized but dungeon-like ambience mounts with gnarly distinction. Until "Ever Cursed" unleashes this rumped up remedy of snarly scours, where the dark but symphonic melody fades into a crescendo fabrication until this progressively technical melody showcases total pandemonium & ruthless havoc. "Ancient Evil Supreme" manifests with this profusely, utilizing vehement versatility which gravitates a complexly dexterous dynamic on rampant rompiness & boisterously bouncy adrenaline. Amplified flamboyantly with wildly rushing madness that in a word, best describes this recording so far...
Especially within "An Ungodly Sight"; the guitars are very light toned & while polished, it's all a bit of an insane mess - which some would like albeit. Consisting of soloist David Lee, the mainman supplies this rambunctiously thumpy synthetic on rapidly swift nimbleness & organic substance that soars with tight weightiness throughout punchy jumpiness. Where frolicking chugs gallops with quintessential virtuosity, monstrously meaty foundations and a borderline element in hybrid experimentation that lacerates with killer mobility. "Gnawed and Torn" distinguishes at a concretely gritty calamity, and flexible fundamentals in crunchy fretworks that embody an up-tempo tone where the nothing but blackened smurkiness on muddy yet hollow desolation belts at a clobbering mass of seething blasphemy.
The titular track smothers you with infectiously audible basslines, rumbling reverberation & sturdy thuds that venomously injects asynchronous throatiness where raspy shouts shriek with the malignant conjuring of eeriness, as deathly but shattering vocals surge with bleak but dismal bombardments in bruising malice. While "Murders" starts off with this ascending hymn until more brutal divinity salubriously stampedes with quaking viciousness that erupts eardrums with full force impact. As some potently vibrant yet progressively technical melody slays with thick, savage momentum that's rather impressive for a solo metaller.
The penultimate track "They Breed" has a bludgeoning embodiment in evil blast beats, rattling throttles & relentlessly seamless bombast and berserking savagery on radically wicked tenacity that adds a hint in classical symphony that enriches lyrical/atmospheric content like occultism; darkness, evil & horror themes, which you can absolutely witness within "The Grave Of Endless Writhing". Overall concluding the record with the finale banger: "Sins Unforgiven"; I am compelled to say that this didn't incredibly grab me, being a lover of Black/Death Metal...yet with the over the top insanity that does create a bizarre landscape of all over the place songwriting musicianship, maybe if the sound production was a little louder, I could persist with it. Otherwise, it all seemed to have fallen flat with daunting haste and not much else in the mix.
Bottom line; if you like your Blackened Death Metal rough, raw and chiselling but deadly - do check it out. While an enjoyable experience, and an intriguing discovery - it doesn't amaze me tenfold. However, fans of this sub-genre will appreciate it at least.
