SON OF A SHOTGUN is a Deathgrind band from Norway. "Be For Oss Alle" is the group's second album, released by Emanzipation Productions on September 11, 2021.

Now, I'll be honest folks: I don't really know what I was expecting with this band. Part of me thought this would be a country band, especially with song titles such as "My Bible, My Wife, My Gun." To be sure, there is a very obvious amount of Southern Gothic imagery. But I really didn't know what I was in for until I started listening, and boy was I surprised!

I feel like labelling SON OF A SHOTGUN as a "Deathgrind" band is in accurate. The music definitely has Grind elements, but to me, the group sounds more like SOILENT GREEN than CATTLE DECAPITATION, especially in the moments when "Meathook" switches from playing technically intricate Death Metal lines to Southern, bluesy licks. Let's also not forget the Industrial elements that pay very obvious tribute to groups like MINISTRY and GODFLESH. Thus, SON OF A SHOTGUN is more of a musical chameleon than a simple label such as "Deathgrind" would let you believe.

Some highlights from this album include "Pray for Me," which features some the grooviest riffs on the record; "Natural Born Killaz," which is a devastating cover of the classic tune by DR. DRE and ICE CUBE; "All I Got Left," which, out of all the tracks on this album, has the most Nu Metal feel to it (and, just to clarify, I am here for that); and "Caught on Guard," the album opener and one of the most purely brutal efforts on this record.

Overall, this is an excellent album. The Southern theme works well with the graphic and punishing imagery of Grindcore and all of its fusion genres. SON OF A SHOTGUN has stumbled on something truly magical here, and I hope the group continues working on this sound on future releases.
