SMOKE is a Psychedelic Swamp Rock band that oozes bayou grooves straight out of the mighty delta's. The band gives the audience their first impression of the beautiful and rough world of the swamp with their debut album "The Mighty Delta of Time." They take you away to a unique journey across the banks of the bayou, where danger is lurking around the corner. The band offers a combination of hard hitting sludge rhythms, intense basslines, spicy bayou riffs and melodic solos. The band originates from the south of the Netherlands; Bergen op Zoom and Roosendaal. The album contains seven tracks.

"Ride" is the first cut. It's a short, mood-setting instrumental that features mesmerizing sounds over a backdrop of the outdoors. "Lineage" is the first proper track, beginning with a fuzzy riff, some bluesy slide guitars, and some smooth vocals. The music is energetic and alive. "Bereft" is a longer song that begins with clean, easy and melancholy tones. The mood is fairly somber, and this is the cycle that they ride on, over empty highways and grey skies. "Riverbed" is a short song where sober tones reign. It draws out over a couple minutes, with gentle and serene tones.

"Motion" opens with a slightly more positive tone, from a mid-tempo riff and steady vocals. Eventually the riff turns dirty and Kaj belts out a bluesy guitar solo. Bass notes can be heard holding down the bottom end. "Time" is a ten-minute opus. Heavy bass notes open the song, slowly forming into a cadence. Vocals, guitar and drums join slowly, as the song swells and the backs off. After the half-way mark, it picks back up again and rides a heavier sound through the end. "Umoya" closes the album. It reminds me of a desert scene, where a lone traveler strums his guitar while the sun bears down on him, without a person in sight. It rides a slow and steady pace until after the half-way mark, where a lead solo ushers in a hastier pace and sound.

This album is obviously a blues influenced Rock and Roll album, with a lot of mournful elements. The emotional qualities can be picked up easily, and linger in your memory. The visuals that the band described above are quite fitting, as you roll into the bayou with an unsuspecting attitude. What will await you? Put the album on to find out.
