It's raining here, which means it's the best atmosphere to give a Norwegian Black Metal release a listen, and here are my ears have selected the blackish young SLEGEST. The one man-band is fresh and you can actually hear this frozen freshness from the modern black metal structure that he's built here in their debut album "Løyndom", and though the modern riffing is one of his extreme remarkable features, but you can clearly smell the old school Black Metal odors-influences in the performance.
There are so many things for me to write about this album, but I guess the most important thing here is the form of Black Metal that these guys are producing here in this record, it's not something that will crash your ears with its roughness, such as the music of GORGOROTH, and it's not something raw to the bones, like the music of 1349, no no, it's softer and way more flexible than that. The music here is somehow closer to the modern SATYRICON, and to be honest it's more satisfying than the new self-titled album "Satyricon", because somehow Ese has managed to add more melodies and solos inside this groovy and head-banging Black Metal odors, it's incredible. BLACK SABBATH influences are merged in the performance, so it's modern but yet an old school piece of shit, it's enjoyable though I used to hate this album at first, but I lost myself in loving after giving every track more than a simple spin. The production is not modern like the groovy musical structure; it's cold and raw somehow, making the sound of the guitars an easy meal for your ears.
"Løyndom" is not a long album, you have only about 35 minutes of complete weird journey of a Norwegian BLACK SABBATHian Black Metal, and some tracks may remind you of couple of songs from ENSLAVED and SATYRICON. There are a lot of things to love in this album, and my favorite elements here are the well-written solos and the spirit that the guys are delivering in the tracks, especially in the tracks "Løgna Sin Fiende" and "Past Burden Strength". I've been introduced to this band when I watched music video of the track "Ho Som Haustar Aleine", and I really liked how the members don't to do any corpse paint or any kind of traditional Black Metal attitudes, only performing the spectacular track with a huge amount of energy and ferocity. While listening to this album I've been thinking about the things that I hated in this record, one of them is that the band has written some Norwegian tracks, which makes the whole world unable to enjoy the lyrics of these tracks, and such music really deserves to be enjoyable for all the black metal fans around the world. The vocals have nothing to do with the old school Heavy Metal influences and I am really glad, because the grim crispy black metal vocals fit this well-fabricated music perfectly.
If you are a black metal fan then this record must be dancing drunk on the top of your library, especially if you wish to hear the old school Heavy Metal influences mixed in the guts of the Norwegian Black Metal entity. While listening to a Black Metal release, don't assume that the blast-beats and the aggressive atmosphere are the only things that can be offered, because some talented bands like SLEGEST have another thing to say about this, buy this record and you'll get the message.
