Depravity
Slaughter The Giant
Metal maniacs, rejoice! I am proud to present to you: SLAUGHTER THE GIANT; signed via Hammerheart Records, performing Melodic Death/Black Metal, on their debut full-length album entitled: "Depravity" (released 28th of October, 2022). Since formation in 2018; the quintet in question have only an EP entitled: "Asylum Of The Damned" (released May 26th, 2019) and this here debut full length studio album entitled: "Depravity"; 8 tracks ranging around 32:35, SLAUGHTER THE GIANT deliver an intricately designed formula on some heavy-hitting Melodic Death/Black Metal amalgamations.
Opening up with this symphonic-esque introduction: "Depravity" begins the record with this satanic ritual of some chaotic blasphemies in slithering manifest, unleashing an amplified adrenaline in boisterously bouncy calamity - distilling a rampantly rompy thud on sturdy punchiness while weighty strikes pursuit with some scouring snarls. Rollicking ramifications execute a blistering foundation in borderline harmony, while raspy throatiness within vocalist Benny Ubachs who yells with shouty gutturals and grunty grumbles in growling but bleeding heft. Executing an evil empowering cordial finesse in abominable filth, while thick reverberation rumbles with trembling wrath & stampeding retribution. "World To Come" solidifies with this organic volatility where sulfurous substance bludgeons eardrums with some monstrously meaty rips & monolithic tempo to boot, fabricating an experimental dexterity from dynamic but twinning shredders Timi Devos/Jeroen Broos.
Both surge with rapidly nimble swiftness; stridently swerving with wildly rushing sharpness, steamrolling with trailblazing revs while razor sharp firepower expertise implodes impactfully with radically wicked synergy & synthetic but gnarly distortion. "Compliance" distills a dense immensity in intense chops, forging a concretely gritty collapse in hybrid experimentation and towering solos of visceral intent. A ferocious pig squeal catches appeal near the end, enforcing an unique versatility on vehement variety & brutal bestiality, the operatic choir intertwined assimilates an ominous yet jarring trepidation on salubrious yet strong songwriting musicianship while rummaging with slaying grinds amongst a euphonic deathliness that's most malignant. Venomously injecting an infectious flicker in audible bass chugs, Daan Vangoidsenhoven thumps out some piledriving stompiness while vicious grooves create a profusely robust yet repercussive outburst that's most brawly.
"Co-ed Butcher" compiles more rifting perseverance on persistently distinguished extremities; echoing a flexibly fundamental attribute in morphing with those resounding pummels that pound with sonically seamless savagery & sinister bombast in which progressively strives with meticulous dimension, amongst a galloping frolic in distinctive drum hammerings from Joren Baert who rambunctiously smacks the set with steely yet symbolic precision. "Ritual Abuse" slabs with momentously primitive rawness, as a blackened atmosphere merges well with the raze-induced havoc that's placed here, an aggressive virtuosity quintessentially soars with roaring but hellish demolition - conflicting souls to break chairs over other chairs into a breserking boundary of maddening severity while marveling with the dark but devastating tonality that will showcase some sublime torment with an abhorrent laceration for good measure.
"Ecological Collapse" belts a clobbering chunk in rhythmic yet orchestral and diabolical profanity; maniacally providing a idiosyncratic conundrum in spectral maliciousness, while a ghoulish presence pierces through you will rolling thunder amongst a meat & potato wodge which fires all cylinders in an all guns blazing pulse of prodigiously prestigious archetypes in archaic, instrumental machination. The penultimate rager "The Undead" systematically materializes with more of those tremoring quakes, while thrilling voraciousness in bleak sacrilege overarches with foreboding bashfulness and terrorizing majesty - before closing the record with the finale banger "Dark Days", crafting an epic fervor on oppressively malevolent nastiness with hostile fatality that's most engaging. Bottom line; I am compelled to say that SLAUGHTER THE GIANT certainly delivered an intriguing listen for a first debut offering, there's lots of rigorous vigor here, coherently capturing a crisp culmination within the subgenres that's fused here too.
Overall; worthy of spinning, re-playing & thrashing to a good bunch of times. An enjoyably entertaining experience in painstaking yet methodical Melodic Death/Black Metal transparencies unravel with zestful meltdowns in groundbreaking excellence awaits you. Do check it out should you fancy a devilishly, god-like degeneration in iniquitous worship of solar embrace in which will start your day off rightly with. Looking forward to their next release!
