Siriun - In Chaos We Trust album cover

Thrash Metal is often categorised as one of the most popular genres within Metal. Classic Thrash Metal Acts such as METALLICA, EXODUS, SLAYER and ANTHRAX have made a huge impact on the modern Metal scene. The fascinating thing about modern Thrash Metal Acts is that they try to incorporate multidimensional influences into the original Thrash sound. Yet the most opted-for style is that of Thrash/Death. Taking the classic fiery guitar riffs and laying traditional Death Metal growling atop of them makes this stylistic approach appealing and unrelenting. I often keep on track with this genre so as to discover newer bands and to analyse the evolution of this genre. My expedition has led me to SIRIUN, a Brazilian Thrash/Death Metal Act who carefully formulate the melodic and aggressive elements of Death and Progressive Metal so as give an aggressive sound with a kick of euphony. Recently I got to know why the founder/guitarist came up with the name SIRIUN, which is an unique name for a Thrash Act, and this is what he said: "Siriun comes from Sirius, the brightest star in the night sky and is closely linked to the history of our civilizations from ancient Egypt, Sumerians, Anasazis, Incas and to the African tribe Dogon they say their ancestors came from Sirius".

The band is all set to unleash their debut album entitled "In Chaos We Trust" later on this month. With a plethora of influences ranging from NEVERMORE to STRAPPING YOUNG LAD, "In Chaos We Trust" offers a set of adventurous 8 tracks with multidimensional songwriting.

The first track off this album, "Mass Control", is an aggressive track backed with Death Metal instrumentation consisting of a syncopated drumming and fiery guitar riffage. One amongst the good points of their instrumentation is that it facilitates the vocalist to perform an aggressive delivery rather than keeping the instrumentation on the higher tone and leaving the vocals to be dimmed. The album also showcases the band's versatility and lyricism. "Mass Control" debates political issues whereas some songs bash religious leaders on dividing the masses; and "Transmutation" - on the latter half of the album - revolves around a lot of concepts such as Outer Body Experiences and Alchemy.

After a mediocre first half, SIRIUN takes the setlist TO another level by integrating the foretold experimentations. The second half of the setlist starts the title track, "In Chaos We Trust". Dwelling on the same Brazilian sound the title track offers a Groovy and Thrashy style of Death Metal that keeps the listeners satisfied. I did say they play a unique structure, so to justify this SIRIUN apply some unusual guitar picking on "Transmutation". Giving a slight Spanish feel by using Flamenco picking, "Transmutation" is one of the best tracks on the album.

"In Chaos We Trust" is actually a Death Metal Record featuring numerous stylistic variations. The Groovy parts really makes this album a winner, as most of the tracks are memorable and addictive. Even though the record is Death Metal, SIRIUN spare a little room for the Thrashy influences to kick in. I love the fact that they are trying to do something big and different but in my opinion they should try harder to display their prowess. With a mediocre first half and a MUST LISTEN second half, "In Chaos We Trust" is an album that is worth every single penny and more. I doubt someone would observe a flaw in their sound. With all that's been said I thoroughly enjoyed the album and I will make sure to support and follow this band to find out whether or not they utilise their talents in full on the next record.
