Unreachable Mountain
Sír

Hailing from Hungary and formed in 2020, this one-man Black Metal band has released their second album here titled “Unreachable Mountain.” The album has four songs, and “Last Days” is first. It’s a slow mover, with plenty of despondence, sounding more like Doom Metal than Black Metal to me. The varied vocal style are both very hopeless sounding. Some backing ambiance mixes in, and it helps to thicken up the sound. An interesting thing happens towards the end however…the stormy sky parts and makes way for some sunshine. The title track is another slow and despondent song, and you can feel the emotions in the vocals. Although much of the song spends time nearly drowning in the swamp, it isn’t overly exciting. “Good Old Hatred” has more despondent clean vocals as well as some dissonance in the music, and the artist continues to paint a picture of desolation. Approaching the halfway mark however, the sound picks up in pacing and in haste, but it eventually falls back. “Immersing Intoxicated” is the final song, and again, another slow mover with desperation dialed up to twelve. I do fancy the keyboards and the thick bass guitar notes. Much of the pain the artist obviously feels comes out in the harsh vocals. Overall, this wasn’t a bad album per se, it just never really got off the ground. Doom can be quite exciting, if done carefully. This album was just middle of the road for me.
