The album, "Die the Fire" is the newest release from Denmark based Occult Hard Rockers, SILHOUETTE. Their style reminds me of a mix between GHOST and ORCHID. It has that groovy Stoner Metal/Hard Rock heard in bands like ORCHID and the lead vocals remind me a lot of Papa Emeritus from GHOST. This is an EP that clocks in at more than 35 minutes so, by many, this could probably be considered as a CD release.
The second song reminds me of the wicked guitar solos on a lot of classic PINK FLOYD songs, it also has a lot of Blues influence, you can almost feel the music going through your body. It's an awesome feeling and it was quite a surprise to hear. The second song really reminded me the more Prog based bands like PINK FLOYD, EMERSON, and LAKE and PALMER in the 70's. The title track strikes me of a mix between KING DIAMOND and BLUE OYSTER CULT. You can hear the wonderful sounds of the majestic organ throughout, adding a lot of flavour to the song. The instrumental parts are on par with some of the classic 80's Prog Rock. ''One with Michel'' reminded me of the smoother stuff from PINK FLOYD, no matter which era. It's a very slow song that fully captures the emotion in the singer's voice. The end of the song has a great guitar solo with some rough vocals (almost like King Diamond mixed with Black Metal-esque squealing), it's a nice change of pace from the previous 3 songs and gives you another glimpse into the variety SILHOUETTE has to offer. This is definitely my favorite song on the EP.
''The Great Orange Sky'' is a more acoustic based song, you can still hear the organ and the keyboards but it's very simplistic. It's another smooth song, but singer does not sound quite clear enough for my own taste. This may be the reason I find this track to be the less impressive on the album. It's not very exciting, and it's pretty repetitive. The last song of the EP is ''Autolatrist''. This sounds like the forefathers of stoner and occult rock, BLUE CHEER. It has a groovy bass line like old BLACK SABBATH as well, and the harsher vocals give this song some added depth. It reminded me a bit of SPIRIT CARAVAN. It's a great way to finish off the album and you can still hear their eclectic influences. SILHOUETTE is really a breath of fresh air in the Rock genre!
