Sijjeel - Salvation Within Insanity album cover

SIJJEEL were founded by Hussain Akbar, initially in Damman, Saudi Arabia in 2013. Being part of the underground scene for many years, SIJJEEL went international in 2020 by recruiting Floor Van Kuijk (CARNIFLOOR; FOCAL DYSTONIA, KORPSE) on vocals and Lukas Kaminski (STILLBIRTH, PLACENTA POWERFIST) on bass. Since then, the brutal Death Metal trio did not look back and released one EP and now their debut full-length album. "Salvation Within Insanity" was mixed and mastered by Floor Van Kuijk at the GLDCHN Studios. The album has a length of about 34 minutes, and it was released via North Carolina brutal Death Metal and Grindcore specialists Comatose Music. There has been no official video release yet, but Comatose Music released an official album stream on their YouTube site and the link is given below.

The Death Metal carnage begins powerful with "Isolation Behind Unrealism", a song in the best manner of the genre: aggressive guitar riffing, hammering drums, and brutal growls mostly at the lower end of the guttural range and with occasional screams. "Isolation Behind Unrealism" is a mid-tempo track with plenty of twists and turns in rhythm. The track is driven by the guitars and the crunching bass lines. The finale is a down-tempo part with a few lead parts of grim melodies. With "Inverted Contentment In Salvation", the pummeling at insane speed starts kicking-into-the-face of the listener. The track is very direct and aggressive with little room for any sort of technicality. There are a few twists in tempo, most notably towards the end of the song where the pace slows down towards mid-tempo. The assault of brutality continues with "The Affliction Of Deteriorating Minds" which starts as a blast-beat thunderstorms. The down-tempo part is led by the relentless riffing and the hammering bass lines. There are numerous tempo twists throughout the track, mainly around mid-tempo.

"Mental Paralysis" is a crushing thunderstorm of riffing, blast-beats, double-bass, and the deep brutal growls. It starts at mid-tempo, but there are a few parts at frantic pace. The melodies during the down-tempo parts are blood-freezing and doom-laden. The song structure of "Mental Paralysis" is complex, and it is easy to get lost, especially during the end of the track. "Climbing Into The Abyss" has a hammering start at high speed before it slows down during the middle part of the song. The down-tempo part has a bit more complexity in structure, and also technically. It all ends as it began: with hammering. "Departing From Human Nature" is not really different compared to the other tracks on the album: the dark riffing drives the track alongside the drums, the twists in rhythm continue and become unpredictable at times, and the bass lines are almost percussive.

"Indignation Overcame Me" is a bludgeoning carnage of riffing, blast-beat and double-bass thunderstorm, and crunching bass for most of the time. The short middle part adds a bit of technicality to the guitars and twists in tempo. The vocals sound slightly more versatile with a few higher notes added to the mix. The album finishes with "Inflection To Thee Smut" and it is the longest track of the album with six minutes playing time. It starts with a short solo guitar part, before the drums and the bass kick in to deliver a pre-lude to the final pummeling. "Inflection To Thee Smut" is one of the tracks with added complexity in texture and technicality, but the main focus lies on a crushing delivery of brutality.

SIJJEEL deliver a solid album in the best tradition of brutal Death Metal. It is a direct, no-nonsense album and comes straight to the point. It is not accidentally that many songs remind me on FOCAL DYSTONIA or KORPSE and the influence of Floor Van Kuijk on the album is evident. SIJJEEL do not re-invent the wheel, they focus on well-tried concepts in brutal Death Metal. The album is well produced. "Salvation Within Insanity" will find its space in the Death Metal scene and fans of brutal Death Metal will surely dig the album.
