Sign X - Back to Eden album cover

"With the arrival of singer Sebastian Zierof, SIGN X began to work on their own sound, which already has been offered on the first album, the first single and title track of the new album "Back to Eden", still supported by Michel Jotzer on keyboards. After causing quite a stir with the first EP at the beginning of 2018, the first album "Like A Fire", due to the collaboration with the label Pride & Joy Music, was able to increase the level of awareness once again tremendously." They now present their latest release, titled "Back to Eden," which contains ten tracks.

The title track opens the album. It begins with a rich and lush dose of keyboards, seguing into more of a Symphonic/Power Metal sound. The vocalist is indeed very good-reminding me of a young Bruce Dickinson but with a cleaner sound. Lavish vocal harmonies occupy the chorus. Sebastian shows his glass-shattering range after the second chorus...wow. "Frozen Hell" is a shorter song that burns with energy. Opening with an outrageous scream, keyboards come in with the guitar riff and some nifty bass work. The chorus has some slightly more melancholy tones, akin to the song title. "Forever King" features Ronny Monroe on vocals. He has an equally impressive vocal ability. This mid-tempo rocker highlights the vocals mostly, along with a strong keyboard presence.

"3 Seconds" begins with soft piano notes and pensive vocals. Stripped down, you can really hear the emotional quality of Sebastian's vocals, and they don't waver or sound pitchy at all. I don't know what the band sounded like before he arrived, but he was obviously the right choice. "History Will Tell" opens with a bluesy feeling...a little dirty guitar riff drives at first. A key change ushers in the chorus. A fun and catchy sound develops from there, and you can see the band's smiles from across the ocean. "Life Goes On" begins with lead guitar notes and slightly more solemn sound. Vocal harmonies echo in the chorus. After the second chorus there is a neat little bridge rounded out with a guitar solo.

"Into the Unknown" opens with melody followed by a very high scream. The vocal cadence in the verses is just a little stiff, but that opening melody returns in the chorus. "Afterlife" is a heavier offering, beginning with a slow and dirty riff. The tone here is darker, considering the subject matter. "World on Fire" roars out of the gate with a familiar Power Metal sound. The riffs are heavy and supported by keyboards and a heavily layered chorus. "Jump'n'Run" closes the album. It opens with acoustic guitars and charming vocals. The solemn tones are supported with a positive message of change. "It's time to change right now" are the closing lyric lines.

Overall, this was quite a fun album to listen to. As I mentioned above, the band definitely made the right choice going with Sebastian Zierof as their vocalist, because his vocals are the highlight on the album. The music was well crafted and thought through also, as well as nicely produced. Fans of Hard Rock with a Symphonic twist, this album is for you.
