Well first of all, I have never been a Black Metal fan but I was curious to hear SIBIIR because on their website; they said they were Post-Hardcore-Punk with a dash of Black Metal. So I had to give it a shot and I will always give the Devil its due and will be objective in my approach when I listen to any album in any style. You have to be open minded and it's always fun to discover new stuff.
This is an EP from this Oslo, Norway based band. This is their first release and there is definitely more to come afterwards. What strikes me at first is the quality of the production for an independent band; it was much better than I would have thought. They say they are Black Metal but I sense more something along the lines of an aggressive band like OPETH in their very beginning like "My Arms Your Hearse". As for the vocals, I'd say it's a mix of Greg Puciato of DILLINGER ESCAPE PLAN mixed with a bit of Jamey Jasta from HATEBREED.
It's a very in your face style and there sadly isn't much originality, although it is important to note that it is difficult to differentiate from the genre. Norway has given us so many bands since the early 90's in a variety of genres from Death Metal to Black Metal and from Prog Metal to Folk Metal, and has now produced this little band from Oslo and this enjoyable 2 song EP. It's an encouraging debut for SIBIIR and would really like to listen to whole album to give me a better idea of what they can deliver!
