SERPENT WARNING is a Doom Metal band from Finland, a place not commonly associated with this genre, in fact when I saw where they were from I was expecting something towards Black Metal, but instead what you get is classical-inspired Doom Metal on the veins of BLACK SABBATH, CANDLEMASS, SAINT VITUS and SOLITUDE AETURNUS, and that is just fine with me.
SERPENT WARNING was formed in 2009 and released a three-song EP two years ago, and now in 2014 are releasing their debut album. This self-titled release has only six songs but are six of the best Doom I have heard in a long while, great eerie atmosphere and great melodies that I can just imagine in a live setting sing along to it. The star of this record for me is the vocalist Samuli Pesonen, he has a perfect voice for singing Doom Metal too bad that he has left the band hopefully their new singer will be able to live up to the material.
If you love Doom Metal this is the record for you, don't even think about it, just pick it up and give it a listen you won't regret. I will finish the review by quoting my favorite lyrics from the best song on this record, "Luna":
"We cry out the names of the higher ones
And the clouds start to crack in the sky
The heavens tremble, it's the golden dawn
It's time to hold on and not let go
It's in these words, in ripples and stones
Powers that be are never alone
You see it on the hills, in water and sky
Silver wings through the raven eyes"
