SEEDS OF PERDITION is a Death/Thrash Metal band from Philadelphia, PA. "Suffering of the Dead" is the group's second full-length album, released by Horror Pain Gore Death Productions on September 10, 2021.

Guitar nerds, beware: this band will deceive you. Upon first listen, I was shocked because it had been a while since I had heard a band playing in standard E-tuning that sounded this heavy. Obviously, it is no secret that most metal bands these days tune their guitars lower than E-standard in order to get the "quintessential" metal sound. Now, it is not out of the realm of possibility for Thrash bands in particular to keep their guitars tuned to E-standard, as that has been the aesthetic of the genre since its foundation. However, it's not until you get to the second track, "Sons Of Corruption," that we learn that, in fact, SEEDS OF PERDITION is using eight-string guitars on this album! It was always my belief that if you were going to use an eight-string guitar, you were doing so because you wanted to sound like MESHUGGAH. By using the eight-string guitars in a way that they are not normally used, i.e. to make Djent, SEEDS OF PERDITION have actually proven themselves to be one of the more interesting Thrash bands out there today.

Of course, devastating riffs abound, thanks to the magnificent guitar team that is George Cathers and Dan Loughry. Chris Natalini's vocals are monstrous, at times reminiscent of the late great L.G. Petrov of ENTOMBED. Steve Raimer's bass playing is jazzy yet heavy, taking a page out of the Steve DiGiorgio handbook. And finally, Dan McGrouty's drumming is absolutely stellar, proving himself to be a real speed demon.

Other highlights from this album include "Dead Inside," which, as a straight up thrash number, is particularly brutal; "Suffering Of The Dead," the title track, which features brilliantly earworm-y lyrics from Natalini and a nasty, sludge riff at the end; and "Choking On Nothing," which had me headbanging even after the song was over.

Overall, this is another fantastic album! My one criticism of this record, though, is the production could've been a little tighter. At times, Dan McGrouty's kit sounded a lot like Lars Ulrich's on "...And Justice for All," which, though not as unpleasant as the one on "St. Anger," is still not the best sound for drums in my opinion. Other than that, this is one hell of a release!
