Flesh Against the Void

Scarset Rebellion

Overall, this was both a thick and gross album, in every good sense of that final word. The best part is the level of confidence that the band plays with…you can tell, they have no fucks to give if you don’t like it. It is in your face, straightforward Metal bruising, with a few interesting twists along the way.

From Bandcamp, “Each heartbeat signals a steady resolve. Each breath carries a subtle challenge to complacency. These times reflect a fragile era, where truth scatters into digital clutter and reality fractures into countless competing voices. What remains when appearances crumble? When social norms reveal a raw nerve beneath the surface? At the margins of collapse, naive ideals burn away, and corruption grows in the harsh residue. Even in these uncertain days, resilience endures. Our flesh - limited, flawed, yet irreplaceable - continues to press against the void. Some walk alone across deserted landscapes, forging movements no one can fully control. Their presence itself stands against indifference. These words don't promise optimism. They mirror the darkness we carry within, the chaos that defies control. By facing our shadows and voicing our frustration, we reclaim our humanity. None stand lower than another for daring to risk everything in pursuit of truth.”

The album has seven songs, and “Second to none” is first. It enters with dark and tense keyboard notes, leading to a fast-moving and heavy riff. Some of the Industrial qualities of the music come from the straightforward vocals and sterile riffs, but the vocal shouts cross it over into the Hardcore arena a bit. “Orgasm Dissolution” has a low, slow, and weighted riff, as well as a bit of a groove to the sound, and it’s catchy. It moves without hesitation, and without giving a fuck what you might think about it. The bass notes are downright bossy, and that is confidence. “One Lonely Soul” features more of those massive bass notes and tortured vocals. The main riff moves with power, and command, and the band makes no bones about it. The keyboards and clean vocals provide another dimension to the music…an almost outerwordly one to boot.

“Deathspread into the World” has an aggressive bite out of the gate, with a fast-moving, and punishing riff. Meaty bass notes and electronica drive some of the sound, and they are reminiscent of blood dripping from the bone. “Pulse of Corruption” has a slow grind, augmented with spacy electronics. The riff gets going with some energy behind it, and the song is off an running…sprinting really. There is also some electronic beeps intermixed, giving it another dimension. “Crowned in Chaos” is a nine-minute beast. It begins with crawling bass notes with drums in tow, followed by tortured vocal screams. There are clean vocals as well, but they don’t take away from the ferocity of the harsh. The longer the song carries on, the blacker and filthier it gets.

The short “Brain Doomed” closes the album, and it has a completely different sound then some of the previous songs, an almost gentle sway, although it is dark, and still quite powerful. Overall, this was both a thick and gross album, in every good sense of that final word. The best part is the level of confidence that the band plays with…you can tell, they have no fucks to give if you don’t like it. It is in your face, straightforward Metal bruising, with a few interesting twists along the way.
