SAINT ASONIA is an Alternative Rock / Metal band from Toronto, Canada and they are here with their newest release titled "Flawed Design" to follow up their 2015 self-titled album. Formed the same year as the release of that album, the members consist of ex THREE DAYS GRACE vocalist Adam Gontier, ex STAIND guitarist and drummer Mike Mushok, Sal Giancarelli and Adams cousin, Cale Gontier on bass guitar. SAINT ASONIA used to be part of RCA Records for their debut album but have switched over to Spinefarm Records for the release of "Flawed Design" after signing with the label in February 2019.
The song "Blind" is what kicks the record off and right away I was taken back with how much this sounds like a THREE DAYS GRACE song not just with the vocals but the influences of the instruments as well. But "Sirens" sounds like their own sound. It begins with what I believe to be a sample that they made their own, and it works very well with the track. "This August Day" begins a little bit heavier with the guitars but the smooth vocals are what keep it at that alternative rock level. "The Hunted" also begins with heavy guitars and some harmonics in the notes. The chorus has a very catchy tune to it that will have you singing along in no time.
"Another Fight" has a very relaxing feel to it with how the vocals are placed and how the instruments come across. "Flawed Design" takes a more of a gloomy turn to the song but overall is was very well done. The drums and the guitars flow perfectly throughout. "Justify" begins with a single guitar followed by hard hitting guitar riffs and drums but begins to slow down as the verse enters. The final track on the album is "Martyrs" and I got to say I wasn't expecting what I heard when the track started. It's a very calm relaxing track that sounds like an unplugged version of the band. It's a great way to end the album.
Overall, I was pleasantly impressed with "Flawed Design". It makes for a good Alternative rock album, and with the band members being ex members of other successful alternative bands, it's no wonder why these guys seem to vibe very well with each other and able to release music that doesn't sound very repetitive in each of their tracks like some alternative rock bands do. I would recommend purchasing the album and giving it a listen.
