Sabotage - Rumore Nel Vento album cover

Before the Italian Metal bands most metalheads are aware of (DOMINE, LABYRINTH, TIME MACHINE) there was an even earlier act enjoying good success, called SABOTAGE. The link between all of them was the extraordinaire singer named Morby (real name Adolfo Morviducci). Still, in this rare release by Jolly Roger Records (what a fuckin' great name!) we should step even more back in time; let's go to year 1984...
SABOTAGE was born in the early 80s (was it 1981?), and first presented their own material through their first demo in 1982. Before Morby taking his place behind the mic, so as to push the band delivering impressive 80s Metal albums like Behind The Lines (1986) and Hoka Hey (1989), it was the herein reviewed album that started it all for this superb Italian classic Metal act. Rumore Nel Vento was written in January/February 1984 and was initially released only as a 'demo sessions' tape. Now mastered and digitally remixed, the band's original debut secures its place in the Italian Metal history and is available both on CD and LP format (the latter one pressed in blue and black vinyl).
Sung in Italian, Rumore Nel Vento features SABOTAGE's first singer, Giancarlo Fontani, whose style is quite British at the time but not hiding his Italian origin. In wild parts he can be related to Paul Dianno's style while in more melodic moments he does seem to draw influence form the 70s European Rock  field. He's really good in singing, keeping his passion throughout the whole tracklist and I'd only object to his average accent in English.
The music, on the other hand, is nearly everything an 80s Metal fan would fancy. Some vintage sound, great riffs by Fois and Milani, some really inspiring soloing (even if their leads lack technical level at times) and a whole attitude/atmosphere driving you back to the neat days of Heavy Metal music. The NWOBHM influence is obvious here - while, I believe, SABOTAGE's next albums showed more powerful attributes - and the rhythm section adds value with their thunder-rollin' pounding, also bringing the mid-European Metal style of that time to mind.
80s Italian Metal was never - I'm afraid - supported/promoted by the Metal Media worldwide; just look at the DEATH SS case. SABOTAGE really is one of the prides of Italy and Rumore Nel Vento transfers their vibe in the purest way. Of course, if you're into 80s Metal made in Italy and bands like STRANA OFFICINA, DARK LORD, CRYING STEEL, VANEXA and - to an extend - VANADIUM (in their most thunderous songs) send shivers down your spine, don't let this one get away that easily. It's a molten piece of Italian Metal, by any way.
