Saattue - Jaahyvasti album cover

Can a band (that sings only in their native language and you can't understand a thing) make you listening again and again to their album? The answer is yes! SAATUE is a band from cold Finland and with their debut album Jaahyvasti they are ready to offer a journey to dark, cold places.

The long, I hope, journey of SAATTUE - meaning procession in Finnish - started in 2001, by V. Manty (guitar/vocals), H. Lampinen (guitar) and bassist V. Heinonen. After releasing an EP called Kivisydan in 2004 and after some lives shows, several lineup changes took place. Early in 2006 the band recorded their second EP, Ikiuneen. The band didn't have any serious offers for a contract at that time, so they moved forward by getting in the studio for their third EP in 2007. By that time Spikefarm Records made a deal for an album/contract and the band didn't leave the opportunity.

So here we are with their debut album, Jaahyvasti (meaning farewell). The words that can best describe this album are heavy, dark, down tempo music, but most of all Metal! They have some beautiful parts with clear vocals, both male and female, but not the way bands like THEATRE OF TRAGEDY or DRACONIAN do it. Fortunately, SAATTUE are miles away. The whole album has a dark and cold atmosphere, and in some parts that the band wants to play a little bit faster headbanging is inevitable. As you can imagine, I cannot say anything about the lyrics, since I don't speak yet(!) Finnish. Another good thing is that the choruses are easy to remember and you may catch yourself sing the lyrics. If I have to pick two or three songs from that album, I would say Luutarhuri, Kaaosmaa (both songs can be found in the Ikiuneen demo) and Vieraaseen Multaan... Well to tell you the truth, I can't make any choice at all. All songs are great.

I believe that Jaahyvasti is an album that every one has to give a chance to, even those that dont like doom, slow tempo music. I believe that SAATTUE has everything a band needs to make something good and they deserve to climb higher among most well-known bands of that genre of Metal music. Let them guide you to a journey in the dark... Watch below the Kaaosmaa video clip.
