Over the past decade Ronnie Romero has worked with the likes of Yngwie Malmsteen,Michael Schenker, plus also vocal duties for Rainbow and Sunstorm.Ronnie's first signs of wanting to pursue a solo career came in 2022 with "Raised On Radio" and also in 2023 "Raised On Heavy Radio" which both albums featured covers which went back to his roots, which were given a fresh perspective, also more commercial which gave a new spin on the original versions. In  2023 Ronnie Romero released his first album of original material "Too Many Lies,Too Many Masters".For the follow up album Ronnie teams up again with Guitarist & Producer Jose Rubio, with also guest appearances from Kee Marcello & Russ Ballard who also wrote the track "Hideaway".

Opening with the title track "Backbone" the riffs are huge and crunchy, the pounding big beating drums with a ripping guitar solo."Bring The Rock" is exactly what Ronnie is doing leading the band with a great vocal. For "Lost In Time" things slow down with a Classic Rock ballad which has that late 70's,early 80's sound & feel with some lighter acoustic moments, but building power in the choruses.Next track on the album "Never Felt This Way" is a Melodic power horse with the big generic chorus you would expect for a Melodic Rock track.Written by Russ Ballard comes "Hideaway (Run)" piano led soon kicks up a gear, more great vocals with a solid melodies, a track which has a Rainbow influenced feel. This album definitely has Seventies Classic Rock influences running through its core take "Lonely World" for example the Hammond Organ touches, the songs structure all have Deep Purple traits, while "Keep Falling" has a pre 1987 Whitesnake sound, which would fit nicely on "Slide It In" or "Ready An' Willing"."Eternally" is an anthemic track, with top musicians delivering a classy Heavy Rock number. The opening heavy bassline of "Running Over" leads to stadium or arena filling track with another great guitar solo,Ronnie delivers another solid vocal which is consistent throughout the album. Then we come to the finale track, "Black Dog" the last track, the heaviest track on the album which is a more edgier,up tempo track ends the album in fine style.

"Backbone" is a good solid offering from Ronnie Romero. There is doubt that he has a great repertoire to his vocals allowing him to be versatile in the style of songs he sings.A couple of tracks were a bit generic & predictable, however the tracks still sounded great. With the experience Ronnie Romero has gained from the projects or bands he has been part of,have contributed, to deliver a solid second solo album.
