Reseed

Residual Self

Although this sound is not my usual cup of tea, I have to say that I was pleasantly surprised by the album. The music is simple, but its groove is quite catchy, and the band combines the best of what both Punk and Hard Rock have to offer. Hop on this ride and just enjoy the journey.

From Bandcamp, “RESIDUAL SELF is back with a brand-new album entitled “Reseed,” heavily focus on the sin of lust with this album. It is an anthem to all deviants and to act as empowerment over the enchanting abilities that can be harnessed through explicit acts. Vulgar and blunt, they are not the type to shy away from length in their songs either, tackling some intricate solos and grooves for extended periods of time which can be heard across the album.” The album has nine songs.

“Magdalenes Whore House” is first. The opening tones are smooth, blues based, and the vocals are low and sultry, as is the bass line. The backing female vocals add another layer to the song, and the leads are psychedelic. “Cannibal Candy” is shorter, more energetic, and has some Punk grooves. The chorus is catchy, and the bass line strong. “Cuntess” has a very heavy bottom end, but the tones at the top and smooth and melodic. The rapped vocals and explicit lyrics are somewhat tongue in cheek, but the music is catchy again and tinged with some more psychedelica. “Succubitch” combines the best of what Rock and Punk have to offer…energetic presence, and hard-edged riffs. The lyrics are just a bit cliché, but hey, this music is about having fun and that is what the band is doing.

“Miss Madness” energizes the album with a shot of lightning. The riff chugs away, holding down the rhythm with bass and drums, while lead breaks augment the song with their blues influence. “Soulless Harpy” has a super-catchy chorus and another shot of pure adrenaline in the pacing. It’s the kind of song that has your head moving along its groove. “She’s a soulless harpy right to the core, she knows how to keep me coming back for more” he croons. “Siren” has a totally different vibe…a shadowy, dark song with a crawling pace and emotional vocals. “We Can Escape” closes the album, and it offers a bit of pensiveness, and reflection. I believe the message of the song is one of hope…you can escape if you need to…but it will take belief and courage.

Although this sound is not my usual cup of tea, I have to say that I was pleasantly surprised by the album. The music is simple, but its groove is quite catchy, and the band combines the best of what both Punk and Hard Rock have to offer. Hop on this ride and just enjoy the journey.
