Sorrow Will Drown Us All
Recorruptor

RECORRUPTOR hailing from Lansing, Michigan were formed in 2013. The Deathcore band release their third full-length album. It has a length of almost 49 minutes, and it was released via Italian Metal, Punk, and Hardcore label Time To Kill Records. The album starts with the tension-building intro "Bathe In The Ashes Of Heaven", transitioning into the title track, which is a frantic delivery of blast-beats, double-bass drumming, punishing guitar riffs and hammering basslines. The vocals are growls covering most of the guttural range with plenty of tonal shifts from deep-lying growls towards higher pitched screams. It is a mixture of fast verse parts and mid-tempo chorus parts as well as a few bits at measured tempo. The break offers a contributing lead guitar solo. "Sorrow Will Drown Us All" is a very strong opening track. "Bearing The Befouled Spawn" keeps the momentum going with the combined thunderstorm of blast-beats and double-bass drumming. The guitar riffing is direct and aggressive and so are the vocals. Most of the vocals are deep-lying growls, however during the fast parts of the tracks, the vocals shift towards highly pitched screams. Near the end there is another cool lead guitar solo. "Bearing The Befouled Spawn" is one of the best album songs. "Within The Fault" is a delivery of devastating guitar riffs, blast-beats, and switches in tempo and rhythm. The melodic framework of the track is grim to say the least; however, the focus is put on hammering. The vocals offer a few pig squeals at the end of the track.
"Urn Of Verglas" starts with a short grim pre-lude driven by the guitars, leading into a verse part at crazy pace with the higher pitched growls. The chorus parts slow down to a measured tempo with a sluggish rhythm. The break goes back to the spine-chilling melodies from the start of the track. Despite all the blast-beats and double-bass attacks in between, the focus of the track is on the doom-laden melodies which are enhanced by introducing some atmospheric effects. "Envenoming" starts with thunderous guitar riffs and crunching basslines at a head-banging rhythm. Most of the track is played at a measured tempo with some subtle shifts towards mid-tempo. The vocals are mostly deep-lying growls, and they have backing vocal support at times. Highlight of the track is the extended and very contributing lead guitar solo. The beginning of "An Unnatural Lust" introduces the main riff of the track at mid-tempo, leading into the verse part, which is driven by the blast-beat hammering and the punishing riff. The vocals are again a mixture of deep-lying and highly pitched growls and screams. The underlying melodies are spine-chilling. A cool lead guitar solo and the first breakdown complete the track. "An Unnatural Lust" is not a pure hammering, it is slightly catchier than most other tracks, and it is not surprising that the song was released as video, and the YouTube link is provided below. "Devoured By Centipedes" goes back into pummeling mode with double-bass attacks and hammering blast-beats driving the track forward. The guitar riffs are devastating, and the basslines are crushing. The tempo and rhythm are maintained during most of the track with some fast parts included near the end.
"Insidious Rot" has a frantic start at insane pace, leading into a verse part at mid-tempo. The guitar riffing is tight and delivers a staccato type of sound in combination with the drumming alternating with parts played at crazy pace. The track includes an extended break with thunderous guitar riffing, hammering basslines, and an excellent lead guitar solo. "Putrid Aberration Of Malevolent Divinity" continues with the pummeling of the listener by offering a smart mixture of punishing riffs, blast-beats, and double-bass drumming, all kept well together by the versatility of the growls. The melodies are spine-chilling however, focus of the track is on aggression and intensity. "Death Of The Hands Of His Image" is a 90-seconds inter-lude leading into the final album track "Scourge Of Prometheus". This track is another hammering driven by the blast-beats during the verse parts at insane pace. This is interrupted by short choruses at down-tempo and grim melodies enriched by atmospheric components. The track is a constant switching of different tempi and rhythms. Enrico de Lorenzo (HIDEOUS DIVINITY) provides the guest vocals for the track.
RECORRUPTOR offer a good Deathcore album. "Sorrow Will Drown Us All" delivers a blast-beat hammering with punishing guitar riffs and crushing basslines, all kept together by the excellent vocals of Clint Franklin. While the focus of the album is pummeling the listener, the melodic backbone is grim. Although almost every song offers plenty of twists and turns in tempo and rhythm, the inclusion of classical breakdowns is rare. The album is well produced. Deathcore fans will love what they hear on "Sorrow Will Drown Us All".
