RAVENSCRY are a five piece hard rock and metal act coming all the way from Milan, Italy and are pretty big in the local scene. They have been together since 2011 and in that time have even and a support slot with QUEENSRYCHE back in 2017. This new album, "100," marks the release of their fourth album which came in May 2020.
Opening things up is "Maybe." Highlighted here are synths that really help with the guitars to carry the melody. This is an opener that show just what RAVENSCRY are all about and what the listener has in store for them. Next up is a song titled "Binary." Mixed with heavy riffing on those 7-string guitars from Mauro Paganelli and Federico Schiavoni. In there you get some really solid beats and a breakdown to get those heads banging. Another good track here is "The Door Inside" with an 80's synth feel at times. It's a song that really means business with one of those anthem choruses, bit of a ballad type of track.
"The Entertainer" opens with a piano intro and transcends into a Djent style riffing with a really big chorus. After that we get "Destination: Nowhere" with its real cool and mean intro. Some really awesome guitar work accompanied by another really big chorus. This is one of the best songs present on the album. "Leader" is a straight up Hard Rock song that just raises you up. Present are those big choruses that appear throughout 100 with a lyrical theme of a change in ones life. This is a really good song and a highlight on this new RAVENSCRY album.
The last song on "100" is the Gatekeeper and it seems like RAVENSCRY have choice to go out with a bang on this one. It has a very EVANESCENCE feel but with a bit more aggression. A very catchy sing-a-long chorus that will really have a crowd going. Also worth mentioning is that killer guitar solo and a really lovely clean guitar outro to finish off this album.
The vocals from Giulia Stefani here work really well along side the low-end guitars and there is a bit of an EVANESCENCE throughout "100." The songs here are very straight forward here and at times the guitars sound a bit flat due to them being extended range 7-strings. but there is a whole lot here to really enjoy with those big anthem style choruses that appear throughout the album and its very heart felt lyrics that can really connect with their audience. It's a solid release from RAVENSCRY and they did good.
