Rainforce - Lion's Den album cover

RAINFORCE are a straight ahead Hard Rock band from Switzerland. They don't advertise themselves as a Christian Rock band, however upon checking out the tunes and lyrics they are, in fact, a Christian Rock band. Which is cool and it's all about the music anyway. There are guest appearances on the album from members of WHITECROSS and BARREN CROSS.  RAINFORCE is a new Hard Rock project founded by guitarist and songwriter Andy La Morte (formerly involved in bands like PYLON).  Matt Brand, also of Swiss doomsters PYLON as the bass player and co-producer. They are joined by Benjamin Mann ( ex POWER OF GOD) and the lead vocals are handled by Maltese singer Jordan Cutajar (ex NOMAD SON & others, including a stint in PYLON).

The album is made up of Rockers in the vein of AC/DC and home-country legends KROKUS plus a few ballad tracks in a spiritual eulogy style. Opener "Lion's Den" opens with Jordan Cutajar showing off his Bon Scott style chops. It's a solid Rocker with a gentle moog synthesizer over the chorus which sounds a bit strange at first. The synths are a recurring sound during the album offering an uplifting addition to the stright ahead Rocking. "Feed Me I'm Hungry" has a Boogie feel to the riffing but the riff is pretty basic and repetitive and the guitars could do with more "meat on the bone". Or maybe get the bass more prominent in the mix. "I am Yours" is a stand out track with a bit of a LED ZEPPELIN delivery. This has a bit more drive in the guitars and the guitar breaks and solo are more "wailing".

"Speechless" is, as stated, an instrumental number with mandrigal guitars, which is a nice moment. "New Jerusalem" is a stand out track with nice slide guitar. Lyrically this one is critical of the misuse of religion in world conflicts. "The Gods Have Failed" follows in a similar lyrical theme and is the heaviest track on the album with more down tuned riffing sounds.  "He Came To Set The Captives Free" has a very "twinkly" keyboard run over the top of the guitars. The album finishes with the ballad "Shine A Light" featuring some nice percussion and good harmonising vocals. This is a song of praise and nice uplifting finish to the album.

"Lion's Den" is a very listenable set of tracks with good tunes and vocals. It could have benefitted from a bit more crunch in the riffs and power in the bass to bring some of the songs alive.
