Ragnarök - Non Debellicata album cover

RAGNARÖK is one of the darkest band from the Norwegian Black Metal and they have a long career preaching about their philosophy of hate and Satanism. These guys have recently released their newest album titled "Non Debellicata" and that's what we are going to talk about.

The opening song from the album is the title one "Non Debellicata" and it starts with the aggressive guttural vocals and the hateful guitar riffs and drums. It's a really powerful song and I believe that it was a great choice to start the release. "Chapel of Shadows" starts out with the traditional Black Metal guitar riffs and it will instant take yourself to a dark place. The vocals sound really desperate sometimes and the bass lines here are really good. "Sanctimoneous" starts out with a cool guitar riff and even an acoustic guitar, but don't get fooled as it's soon joined by the aggressiveness of Black Metal. This song has a cool ambiance and even some narration that gave it a whole different atmosphere.

"Bestial Emptiness" starts out fast, aggressive and with great guitar riffs that reminded me of the icy mountains of Norway. There's a great guitar sound on that song and its impressive. "Nemesis" starts out with a really great guitar riff that is really diverse and sounds good. "The Great Destroyer" has a really powerful bass sound that gave the song a whole new strength. The vocal lines from the stanzas are really good and the chorus is really catchy. "Geranese Demoniac" starts out with a cool acoustic guitar sound and some distortion guitars as well. The vocals here sound different from the previous songs and it's a little bit more low, which gave the album a cool diversity.

"The Gospel of Judas Iscariots" is all you can ask from a song that carries its title. Its aggressive, there's a lot of blast-beats and I think that this song sounds great live. I liked how they mixed up the calmer riffs with the fast drumming as it gave the song a different dynamic. But also, the guitar solo and the groovy guitar riffs as well. "Jonestown Lullaby" starts out with cool vocals that sounds like a radio mix and it feels like Ragnarök is about to start. This song is really dynamic and that's a good thing.

"Asphyxiation" is the song that closes the album and it starts out with a good bass line that is soon followed by some groovy Black Metal guitar riffs and some aggressive vocals. I liked the guitar riffs on this one as its really different from the previous songs and there's a good guitar solo with a beautiful melody. It was a great song to end the album.

RAGNARÖK has written and released a great Black Metal album that is probably one of the best that I have listened to among the releases from the genre this year. Its powerful, aggressive and dynamic. You can't get bored by listening to the album. The production was tight, the instruments were well executed and the songs were really well written. Its pure Norwegian Black Metal, nothing else to add here.
