Night Wolf
Raging Speedhorn

From their record label’s website, “A major presence within the UK metal scene for the past two decades, with half a dozen crushing studio outings to their name (and what a name!), RAGING SPEEDHORN have forged their reputation through hard touring, hard music, plus a no-compromise attitude…to everything. RAGING SPEEDHORN's new album, "Night Wolf", the band’s first for Spinefarm, produced by Russ Russell, sees the six musicians – as much gang as band – delivering one of the most memorable moments of their career, with all valves glowing, all faders up and all needles flicking red.”
The album has ten songs, and “Blood Red Sky” is first, and it comes out of the gate with claws extended and fangs ready to bite. The slow, weighted groove is an exercise in riffing, and the harsh vocals are deadly. It’s a juggernaut of punishment. “The Blood Code” is another brutal offering. Thick bass notes open the song, followed by another bruising riff. The harsh vocals carry an attitude with them and they obliterate everything in the surrounding landscape. “Can’t Stop” is another bass led song and that bass is fat and commanding. Bass is often and instrument that gets overlooked in the final mix, but can add so much to Metal music. This time, the vocals are cadenced with the riff, and it’s another bruiser.
“Every Night’s Alright for Fighting” is an anthem as well as a reminder that a good fight might be what you need, even a good ass kicking. And this song kicks your ass indeed. “DOA” is the common abbreviation for the phrase “dead on arrival.” It has a faster moving pace and plenty of energy to go along with its gargantuan balls. Crossing a bit into the fervor of Punk Music, this amalgamation of two styles works very well. “Dead Men Can’t Dance” is another anthemic song that focuses on the weight bottom end. The vocals are cadenced again, and it runs fast and burns after it’s gone. “Dead Reckoning” closes the album; a short two-minutes of dense music and brutal punishment.
Overall, one can see how this band is a staple in the UK Metal scene of today. Uncompromising? I would add rigorous, adamant, and even zealots to that label. The album is a take-no-prisoners, in-your-face, and beat-you-down type of album that will move the listener to violence.
