RAGENHEART is a power metal band who does not disappoint its audience. The drums, the bass, the guitar it all works and that does not include the powerful vocals. This band knows how to do metal. Their influences ranges from QUEENSRYCHE to JUDAS PRIEST and it all can be told through this one album. The pleasant first track is titled "A Thousand Years Empire" with a creepy beginning leads in with wonderful string composed and heads into a wild and pleasant metal song. The second on the album is "The Last King" , which is also the name of the album, a heavy guitar and harsh drums this song is a good surprise to any metal fan. Clean vocals that are pleasant to the ears. One can tell the influence of Geoff Tate of QUEENSRYCHE and Rob Halford of JUDAS PRIEST. John Koroneos is good vocally but he isn't imitating or trying to imitate, he just has a good voice. The song itself is simply good.
"The Mirror" the guitar is great. This song has good music, it is composed well, it is produced well. It has an air of reminiscent of the eighties which is greatly appreciated. The song is a good rocking song for today's metalheads. A great guitar solo is in this song, so listen up. "Metal Rules the Night (The Eighties Outcast)" with this title of course it is great. This is welcome to the eighties again and it is awesome. Totally tubular musicianship on this song. This is one for everyone to fall in love with. The drums are great. The guitar is on fleek. The vocals are perfection. This song just rocks. "Forever Rain" a mellow beginning with a melodic sound. It has beautiful vocals in a romantic way. The guitar solo is great. It is still all metal, but it is simply beautiful and everything works well within the composition and production on all aspects of this song. Technically wonderful all across the board. This song makes one look forward to the next song on the album.
The last song that brings this album altogether is "Our Mighty Past" and what an intriguing title. The song comes in with a storm, literally. It has the most soothing guitar beginning and it only gets better. The storm continues throughout and it happens to make it even more interesting. The end. A great metal album for anyone.
