Hailing from the redwood forests of San Francisco come some Thrash maniacs that seem to have been there for a while. POTENTIAL THREAT is one of history's lost bands, maybe because of the 12-year hiatus back in the 1990s, or maybe because we haven't heard a full-length from these guys in six years. A little inconsistency never hurt anyone, but a lot of it can really hurt even with steady touring.

Potential Threat return with their first full-length album since 2013's "Civilization Under Threat" and give us another "threat" on "Threat to Society" Okay, I'll try to cool it down on the threat puns. Giving us a pair of demos in the so-called "golden age" of Thrash, they would fall somewhere in between speed of TESTAMENT and the vocal style of METALLICA with guitar harmonies similar to DEATH ANGEL.

Starting off with "War Machine" you can feel something approaching. Now it sounds like a clanking tank that's on its last leg, but it's definitely coming and you're right in the "Path of the War Machine", a sludgy intro to the first of many standard Thrash riffs on the album. And by standard, I don't mean that in the negative connotation of "standard". Sometimes standard is good, and in this case it's catchy and decent.

Throughout the album there's nothing really that sets this apart or makes it stand out among other albums this year, but songs like, "Spitfire", "Cry of the Wolf" and "Victims of the Fall" are all fun, catchy songs. The production actually feels good with no over-compression issues that plague bands nowadays, but this isn't their first rodeo either.

Closing out the album with the strongest song on the album, "Into the Black", the soaring guitar harmonies and vocal melodies indicate it's by far the catchiest. An ominous build up with the harmonies into a fist-pumping galloping that seems like it lasts the whole song. Overall, I think this is a decent outing with some really interesting moments, but it also can seem repetitive and a little long at times.
