Possession - 1585-1646 album cover

I've said it once, I'll say it a thousand times- if I can't get the lyrics, the song won't pass for me. I think this is the main reason why I just don't like Black or Death Metal. So what's different in POSSESSION? Absolutely nothing, they are simply another Black Metal band and nothing more complicated than that. They are based in Belgium and they have that Nordic traditional Black Metal scent in anything they do. "1585-1646" is their new EP released after 3 years of work and many other releases.

Even though listening to this album in what seemed to be the hottest day of the year in what seemed to be the hottest place in the country, when the first song began I felt like standing in front of a Belgian church, in the purring rain, waiting for a pagan ritual to occur. The first 6.5 minutes of this first song called "Obscurity - Visitation" are some kind of an Intro, a very good one in my opinion. After the intro, the real Black parts of the album begin with those extremely fast guitars and pounding drums with a crazy double-bass makes me wonder how the drummer is still alive after a recording session.

Even though I do not enjoy this music since everything is over blurry for me and I can't make anything out of it, I still admire the players and mainly the lead singer for his ability to create such amazing vocals without losing his throat. "Ablaze" is a great example for the qualities of this band, being able to do so many different things in just one song and take the listener to a million directions even without understanding what the hell am I listening to?!
From time to time I could hear a nice guitar line not over shadowed by the cymbals. The production values as seen here are not very high, but the work is done.

POSSESION wished to keep the flame of ancient Black Metal alive, and I think they managed to do it and didn't even sweat it.
