The All Seeing Eye
Pollard Row

From Bandcamp, "Sound is a human need and navigation point; through sound we discover. The destination is still being determined. POLLARD ROW is a Progressive Metal band from Adelaide, Australia." Their newest album, titled "The All Seeing Eye" is presented here, and it has eight songs. The opening tones of "Superego" are choppy, weighted, and the long held lead notes bring some mystery and intrigue to the song. Chunky bass notes also come to play, and the vocals are raspy and they rise with anger at times. Overall, it's a dark and cloudy song that lingers in the shadows. The title track begins with meaty bass notes and a weighted, heavy riff that is slow moving, and this time, there are full on harsh vocals. They roar like the king of the jungle. The bass notes are very well done here…they add a character of depth to the song.
"Endocrine" takes a bit to kick over, but when it does, it rumbles like a diesel engine. Again, it's the bass notes that keep the song as strong and powerful as it is. There are also some ambient moments, and the drop makes the subsequent climb that much more pronounced. It's a lengthy offering, but it passes with ease. "Inimbue Am I Free" is a short segue song, and gives the listener time to catch their breath and contemplate the landscape around them. The "night sounds" of bugs chirping give you a warm and smooth feeling, but the album isn't done with you yet. "Macromicro" is a more introspective offering that uses a lot of atmosphere, ambiance, and gentler tones as a reminder of the more subtle side of the genre. "Submerse" is a short breather before the final storm.
"Detachment" is the final song. The beginning is gentle but doesn't prepare you for the angry tones that follow. The clean vocals make a dissonant connection with the music, but the harsh vocals support the sound. There is a fade-out at the end as if someone turned the light switch off. Overall, this was an excellent album. At times, it was shrouded in mystery, while at others, the music was right in your face. Even in the latter times, the music has a darkness to it that is hard to describe, but it attracted me like a moth to flame.
