November 24, 2025

PITCHBLACK hailing from Copenhagen, Denmark were formed in 2002. They play a mix of Death and Groove Metal. After releasing one EP and three full-length albums, "Walking On Burning Ground" is their fourth album. It has a length of about 49 minutes, and it was released via Metal label Producciones Paganas. The album starts strong and aggressive with "Let's Fight". Right from the start, devastating guitar riffs, crushing basslines, and aggressive vocals drive the track. The vocals are growls and vary around the medium end of the guttural range with some tonal shifts towards higher pitched growls. The track mixes fast verse parts with mid-tempo bridges and chorus parts. There are plenty of Groove vibes in the track and especially in the vocals. "La Hora De La Muerte" continues with sound of the opening track. The guitar riffs are very powerful, and they are accompanied by strong basslines. The vocals utilize a few higher pitched screams. The tempo of the track undergoes many twists and turns, but at the base, it is a mid-tempo track. At the heart of the break, there is a contributing lead guitar solo. "Evil Prevails" starts with a bit more catchiness in the guitar riffing, leading into the verse part at mid-tempo. The riffing is tight at times, and it is supported by some double-bass drumming. The vocals are versatile and offer a few clean parts in addition to the growls.

"Taste My Flesh" opens at a measured tempo with thunderous guitar riffs and grim melodies. However, there is a seamless switch when the track goes into the verse part. The guitar riffing is tight, and the basslines are crunching. The vocals are very aggressive in particular during the choruses. The track includes a break with a short but contributing lead guitar solo. There are hardly any notable twists in tempo and rhythm. "Taste My Flesh" is a track with simple and direct guitar riffing, and it is one of the album highlights.   "Here To Stay Crusty" starts at a measured tempo and has plenty of Groove vibes. The guitar riffing is powerful and supported by some double-bass drumming and strong basslines. There is a seamless switch in tempo towards crazy pace for a first break; however, it does not contain any solo. The lead guitar solo comes at a later part, and it is the highlight of the track. Altogether, the track cannot keep up with most album songs. "Burn The Cross" is introduced by an acoustic guitar pre-lude, transitioning into a mid-tempo verse part with punishing guitar riffs. The riffing is direct and aggressive and so are the vocals. The chorus parts slow down to a measured tempo with thunderous guitar riffing. The break is two-parted, starting at measured tempo and changing to a fast pace. "Crossing The Line" continues with the Groove attack at mid-tempo. The guitar riffing is powerful, and the basslines are crunching once again. Highlight of the track is the vocal contribution with a very versatile offering, utilizing almost the full range of growls and screams. Apart from that, the song has quite complex textures, which makes it difficult to follow at times. The lead guitar solo is also one of the standout elements of the track. "No Apology" brings a lot of pace and dynamics to the table. The guitar riffing is tight at times, and while the choruses slow down a little bit, they are almost a bit anthemic. The break delivers grim melodies at measured tempo and a contributing lead guitar solo.

"Emotionless Blessings" starts with crunching basslines, leading into a mid-tempo verse part. The guitar riffing is tight, and the vocals offer once again a lot of versatility with many tonal shifts across most of the guttural range. The chorus parts slow down to a measured tempo with almost sing-along chorus lines. Highlight of the track is the cool lead guitar solo. "Emotionless Blessings" is the official video release, and the YouTube link is provided below. "The Sky Is Turning Red" has a very powerful start at a measured tempo with a sluggish rhythm. The guitar riffing is thunderous, while the melodies are dark and catchy. The break is short, and it comes without transition, starting right with a short lead guitar solo. After halfway through, there is another break introduced by the strong basslines, and it adds a new layer to the track. The album finishes with "Last Chance" and the track starts fast but slows down for the verse parts. The guitar riffing is punishing, direct, and aggressive. Highlight is once again the extended lead guitar solo, which adds something special to the track. Altogether, "Last Chance" is one of the best album tracks.

PITCHBLACK offer a decent album. "Walking On Burning Ground" deliver an interesting blend of Death and Groove Metal with some Thrash Metal twists. The guitar riffing is direct and aggressive, while the solos often add an additional layer to the tracks. Highlight of the album is the versatility of the vocals. The album is well produced. "Walking On Burning Ground" contains promising songs, and the album will have its share of fans.
