From their early days stirring up the Hollywood rock scene in 2003 Phil X & The Drills have always kept fans hooked with their high-energy sound and jaw-dropping performances. As Phil X became a YouTube sensation through his work demoing vintage guitars for Fretted Americana, the band’s visibility skyrocketed, eventually evolving into the powerhouse known as Phil X & The Drills. The band—featuring guitar hero PHIL X (Bon Jovi) on lead vocals and guitar and Daniel Spree on bass and backing vocals—is pulling out all the stops on “POW! Right In The Kisser”, with an all-star lineup of guest drummers including Tommy Lee (Mötley Crüe), Ray Luzier (Korn), and Tico Torres (Bon Jovi), amongst others.

Don't Wake Up The Dead” is a fast paced banger with grit, with Phil X delivering a vocal which has a punk feel ,a short but sweet track with attitude.”Fake The Day Away” is a more modern style track with an alternative/grunge feel with fuzzy guitar riffs, groove, rhythm & melody, which is also the direction and sound of “Heal” a totally different sound to the opening track. Changing musical direction again “Find A Way” takes the classic rock root,a much stronger vocal from Phil X with some great guitar touches a great track.”Moving To California” is a much brighter and melodic sounding track with a catchy chorus.”You Sunk My Battleship” is a heavy southern rock style track with Phil X running riot with some great guitar work.”Broken Arrow” is a track which has a lot heart and is one of the tracks that stands out for me.”I Love Her On The Lips” musically sounds cool fast paced a rocking melody, but unfortunately the songwriting & lyrics are not the best.”Way Gone (Beam Me Up Scotty)” is another album highlight a punk style track with great energy and lots of attitude, which would sound great live.

POW! Right In The Kisser” is an average release. There's is no doubting Phil X can play the guitar, but vocally his voice is not the strongest or the best I've heard, which in some parts of the album he sounds out of his depth. There is no doubting the passion or energy of Phil X And The Drills on this album, which has some great moments, with them mixing it up with the different genres which makes it an interesting listen.
