Has it been that long since the last time I heard from Pedestrians of Blue? Boy, I still recall their previous work that was also as interesting as this brand new one. It seems that time flies lately out of my hands! Am I getting older or what? Brrrr... calm down Michael, it's probably the heat that's driving you mad! Let's get on with this review.
Pedestrians of Blue hail from Norway and their first Demo, Circles of Butterflies - The First Monologue saw the light of day in 2002. However, not long after their debut, vocalist Johannes Stole and guitar player Torfinn Sirnes found themselves looking for band members to carry on their musical vision. A matter not resolved before they hooked up with bass player Rudolf Fredly and drummer/producer Harald Levang in the fall of 2004. Finally this looked like a band and not like a project!
The three songs included in this Demo are part of a 12 songs album that awaits in the corner to be released. The best way to describe it is melancholic modern Rock that often looks towards the Empire period of Queensryche (especially the guitar sound). The three songs are definitely FM friendly with lovely melodies, heavy moments but above all a very good voice, the one of Johannes Stole. The bombastic production was done at the band's home studio (!), mixed by Norway's finest engineer, Geir Luedy and mastered by Mika Jussila at Finnvox studios in Helsinki. As you can imagine, this Demo makes lots of other releases run for cover (when it comes to matters of production).
Out of the three, I have to peak Father & Son, the heaviest song in here. I also like the two other songs (the opener The Garden can be a summer hit - who knows!). If all the songs included in their forthcoming album are as good as those three then, mark my words, we will be talking about this band again really soon!
