Ostracism

Orbstruct

This was a solid slab of Death Metal. As I mentioned, the band isn’t trying to reinvent the genre, they are just here to create some punishing sounds, and mission accomplished.

"Ostracism" was meant to be a manifesto of our solitude, which we wanted to offer as a gift and the best chance for each person to truly know themselves. But, as we dove deeper into our own minds, we came across images we weren't ready for. Under pressure from outside forces we couldn't control, we couldn't see a way back from this nightmare, so we were forced to fight our way out through paths that completely shattered how we saw reality and ourselves. In the end, "Ostracism" became a scream of our despair, from which we no longer expect a reply, but we still hope we're not alone in this emptiness, and that our cry will be heard."

The album has nine songs, and "Hive" is the first proper track, following a brief intro. The tones of this song dig deep into the earth, and the vocals are horribly guttural. The guitar and drums also create a concrete wall capable of destruction, and the dive bomb leads scream Death Metal. The title track is another horrid offering. The lines between Death and Thrash Metal can be easily blurred, and that's what I get here. The riffs are thrashworthy, and the vocals are guttural. This, combined with their strong musicianship, is what makes the sound. "Ice Insulation" has some evil sounding atmosphere at first, like something you might hear if you opened the gates of Hell. The low, slow riff sounds menacing, and the gutturals commanding.

"Sunflowers on Our Fields" is a curiously titled song, because it sounds nothing like the title. This black palate is painted with sturdy riffs, horrid guttural, and enough pig squeals for the entire sounder. "Hate Us" is another song where the band capitalizes on the depth of the sound, and the slow pace really helps it stick to your ribs. "Fakel Viyny" is longest, at six minutes+ of run time. It begins with an eerie atmosphere, and harrowing sounds from the guitars, and chunky bass notes mix in. More gutturals take over from there, and you feel like you are covered in filth. "R.I.P" is another straightforward, bludgeoning song. The band isn't reinventing the wheel, but their tenacity is noteworthy.

"Only You and I" is the final song. It begins with a steady marching beat from the drums, and then meaty bass notes enter, followed by an evil riff and vocals. It gains intensity as it moved, finally coming to rest. Overall, this was a solid slab of Death Metal. As I mentioned, the band isn't trying to reinvent the genre, they are just here to create some punishing sounds, and mission accomplished.
