One Step from Falling - Stuck on the Wayside album cover

ONE STEP FROM FALLING are a five piece metal act coming from Syracuse in New York. They have been together since 2013 and this marks the release of their debut album "Stuck on the Wayside" which was released in May 2020. And I must say what a body of work this band has packed into this album. Kicking things off is the intro track "Lunga La Strada". A very tribal vibe with some vocal harmonies over top of it. Next we get "Wayside" with its heavy riffing that hits you like a ton of bricks. Very subtly there are hit of that tribal sound from the previous track but its mixed in with the heaviness of the band.

"Black Cosstice" is up next and has a very Alternative Metal sound with some elements of TOOL thrown in there as well which is present in the songs big chorus and an awesome guitar solo delivery from Pete Krell in there as well. I must say I really did love this song. "Stuck" is another great tune here. Its very Nu-Metal and almost like KORN at parts. Some very interesting use of the bass present here from Josh Skellett. "Demons" is up next which starts kind of quiet but builds to a big chorus and a lyrical theme of not letting your demons win.

"Lung Butter", which is the first single off the album, is a real hard hitter. It has got a big chorus and a heavy bridge section with some cool lead guitar work from Pete Krell. Another good one is "Rub Together". From the start its building to something big and then it comes, another one of those big choruses this band seem to o really well. The song has a very catchy riff and verses that switch from melody to heavy to keep the listener on their toes. It's a really great song and even ha the band switching between vocal duties which just adds more dynamic to the music.

"Paroxysm" is another great track with a cool bass line at the start from Josh Skellett and guitars to match it too. The song is beautifully aggressive with a middle section very reminiscent of Korn. "Man from Outer Space" arrives next and this song really does sound out of this world. Present here is drummer Ty Gleason really giving it socks on tis track. Coming towards the end of the album we get "Rigamortis". It has a riff that really flows with ease. Powerful vocal performance here from Steve Reith. a bridge section that catches the listener off guard then pulls you right back in. then we get to the last song "Left Behind" which is a very different fell to the rest of the album. It starts off with a very funk intro and builds to another big chorus from this band and present we get a very uplifting guitar solo from Pete Krell.

Present on this album is a big influence by Tool with a lot of Nu-Metal elements thrown in too which adds to One Step from Falling's big sound that they have. Its hard to find another band out there like them and that brings a breath of fresh air to the Metal world. Some amazing vocals and a band that works really well together are all present on "Stuck on the Wayside". As song writers they truly know how to serve the song and they have a lot of creativity. I loved this album and would love to see and hear mor from them in the future. Well done lads.
