Formed in 2007 and celebrating their 15th year as a band, OMOPHAGIA just released their fourth full length album in September. It is focused on the topic of life and death, "Rebirth in Black". Available on CD or colored vinyl, this five-piece created its latest in the beautiful country of Switzerland. This is where they have released this beast from. Brazilian/Swiss Metal is what they officially call it. Having recently partnered with Extreme Management Group, they describe the band as coming together with the aim of composing groovy parts, fast tempos, and sizzling riffs. They have already extensively toured Europe on club and festival tours, but hopefully this partnership helps them reach the next level like some of their peers such as BEHEMOTH and CANNIBAL CORPSE.

Starting out with an orchestra intro in the very beginning, you quickly find yourself in a quagmire of music coming at you from all angles. It is a little all over the place, but quite unique in its approach. The stepping up and down of the guitar work and how the rest of the instruments are intertwined and how it all comes together is very interesting. Unique is the first word that comes to mind, which is good in this sometimes-repetitive genre. You will have to listen to understand.

The title track falls in at the number three spot, having more of a traditional approach in the beginning. Again, the drums mean business, but the guitar work is in the forefront and lead the way. Vocally, it isn't very muddy sounding. It all comes through clearly and is understandable, which I always find nice to hear when someone is screaming through a speaker.

"Thoughts Of the Earth," is about the halfway point on this journey. So far, so good. "Serve As Slave" hammers it down hard. It means business, I like the energy. "All For None," is another one of my favorites on the B side. They all have their own little bit of flair and can stand alone and sound different than each other. I like it when an album has a nice mix of ingredients like this one. "Time Tells," has a great beginning where it gets you pumped up and keeps you there while adding a mysterious middle to it, all before wrapping us victims up inside eleven killer tracks. I think that you should check this one out, it is different, in a good way.
