Finishing a follow up to their debut, "Biogenesis", Oregon Death Metallers OMNIHILITY return to envelop and incinerate with "Deathscapes of the Subconscious". If the name does not ring bells for you, think a twisted melding of DIES IRAE, BRAINDRILL and BEYOND CREATION. "Deathscapes..." stands out to be one of the year's greatest extreme metal accomplishments.

"Contemplating" initiates the metal, after the lengthy and winding acoustic intros; it begins with chronically syncopated and technical riffs of warhammers. You should notice immediately, the exquisite sound of the drum tracking, every strike rounded out in full; a trait often lost amongst technical Death Metal recordings. Let's be real; this is a drummer's music. Needless to say, however, that the guitar work in this track, especially, is nothing short of excellent. The lengthy piece sees fluid progressions through multiple states of timbre. "Disseminate" may well contain the fastest execution of a riff on the record, tracked at an inhuman BPM, the supersonic speeds of the introductory riffs drowning our aural sense. Most welcome are the DEICIDE-like vocal deliveries, backed by infernal guitar work.

"Divine Evisceration" is for the blast-lovers out there, drilling into subterranea strata by strata. Interestingly, subtle (due to their ludicrous speeds) patterns of groove are noticeable amongst the arrangement, as well as ingenious inclusion of Eastern-sounding chord progressions (BEHEMOTH, anyone?), topped off with analogous bass-guitar sweeps. "Lost Sands of Antiquity" stood as out the album favorite, with one of the best introductions I have heard in a long time. This band does not simply throw together blast beats and sweeps and call it brutal music; this track is perhaps the greatest testament to their affinity for creating meaningfully-intellectual Death Metal, with a multi-layered arrangement that weaves a multirhythm with liquid transitions.

I eventually hope to see this band grow in popularity; it irks me to know the state of music out in the world currently, that pales in comparison yet dwarfs by name. OMNIHILITY is a band that every metalhead needs to experience, for better or for worse.
