Obscure - Darkness Must Prevail album cover

Coming to us from Spain is the Death Metal band OBSCURE and their first full length album "Darkness Must Prevail". The band was originally formed in 1988 but has had its fair share of ups and downs between then and now. Luckily it seems they have found their footing and have finally put out a really well written album. The band is comprised of Xavier Beleth on vocals, Rafa Cortés on Guitar, Voris Ortiz on Guitar, Anselmo Roca on Bass and Enri Sanchís on Drums.

The first track on this list is "Curse of My Race" which starts the album off on a very powerful note. This is some of the purest and straightforward Death Metal I have heard in a while. If you are a fan of old or new Death Metal you will surely enjoy this. "Darkness Must Prevail" the second song on the album will absolutely blow you away. This song had my heart racing and made me want to start bashing my face into my table. This is what I mean when I talk about Death Metal. If you're a fan of Dying Fetus and Cannibal Corpse you will really appreciate this.

"After Life" keeps the ball rolling and it's like rolling down a hill of nothing but metal spikes that are stabbing the shit out of you. This song is honestly the tamest song I have heard so far and it's still brutal as fuck. I really enjoyed this one a whole lot. "End Destination" comes in and kicks you in the face like you owe it money. This song is very upbeat and honestly a very pit worthy song. I can only imagine what it would be like to be in the pit during this song. It would probably be like all-out war.

"Sunk Into Oblivion" actually sound like they were going a little towards Tech Death in the beginning which was really nice. This song is one of the chuggiest songs I have heard in a while and I absolutely love it. It's one of the tamest but most fun tracks to listen to so far. "Through Self-Repulsion" is one of the eviler and angry sounding songs on the album. It kind of slows down the pace a little bit to give you a slight second to gasp for air and then pushes you back into the pits of hell. So far this whole album has been absolutely fantastic.

The second to last song is "Into Utter Darkness" and that's a very fitting title for it. This song is very powerful and one of my favorites on the album. The way they switch up the tempo is beautifully done. I could not ask for more out of this album. The final song on the album is "Blessing of Malignancy" and what a way to end the album. This is by far the strongest performance and a very fitting way to end such a beautiful masterpiece. I have to say that this is definitely going down on my top albums of 2019. Way to go guys! Keep up the great work!
