NITA STRAUSS is currently best known for being the touring guitarist in the ALICE COOPER band. She has also played on his album "Paranormal" of 2017, and on a number of other albums by different artists. "The Call Of The Void" is her second solo album, and it clocks over 59 minutes, so you are getting a lot of bang for your buck. Her solo debut is from 2018 and is called "Controlled Chaos". I have to admit I haven't heard that one.
On "The Call Of The Void" she plays alongside her own band, but she also uses a lot of guest vocalists to get the lyrics out to the world. The list is impressive. Just have a look at the track list, and you will have to agree that there are some fine names available. It does help, as there are not a lot of people who can handle a full hour of instrumentals from a guitar-based band. One of the things she has going for her that she is not one of those guitar masturbators. Or, as she is definitely a (fine looking) woman, and they jill instead of masturbate, should I call her a possible guitar jiller? No, her guitar parts are always constructed to enhance and improve the song, not just to impress. She only goes that way on the instrumentals.
The other thing in the favour of NITA STRAUSS in general and especially "The Call Of The Void" is the outstanding sound. If you remember ANNIHILATOR and their brilliant album "Waking The Fury", then that is the reference that you will be looking for. That feeling of recognition only expands when she is using her staccato riffs. You could almost swear that it could have easily have been Jeff Waters playing. Just listen to "Consume The Fire", for instance. Until she starts playing a solo, that is, because then you hear how divers she is in her use of techniques and sounds.
The songs range from rather Melodic Rock up and until almost Thrash Metal, and the singers accompanying her really fit the bill every time. It makes the hour that you listen to "The Call Of The Void" fly by, and that is mainly due to the fact that the music is so versatile, oh, and the lyrics are very contemporary, with issues that happen in this day and age. Conclusion is that NITA STRAUSS has reached a great achievement with "The Call Of The Void".
