NEUROPSHERE are a Melodic Metal band out of Rome, Lazio, Italy. They were formed back in 2001 from the ashes of a Groove Metal band called LYKAION. This is their second full-length album, six years after the release of ''Megantereon''.

A number of websites have categorized this band as Melodic Death Metal, which is obviously a grave misunderstanding I believe. You do have some Death Metal vocals here and there but most of the vocals are clean. This band has the Melodic part of the name but that's pretty much it. I was not able to find much information on this band nonetheless but that will change pretty soon. They have a lot of potential and mix different styles to make something rather interesting.

I would categorize this band as Melodic Nu Metal. The omnipresence of piano and keyboards throughout the song definitely add something rather special to these songs. It's not something you were expecting when some of these songs do sound like something straight out of the late nineties. The sound does remind me of when MACHINE HEAD tried their hand at Nu Metal and did a pretty admirable job honestly.  Some songs like ''Intermittent Sun'' sound like a mix of old and new OPETH but less proggy. I felt it was like a tone downed version of what WILDERUN is doing right now.

You have a capable vocalist but lacks that passion in his voice and it's difficult to compare him to the great ones in the genre. He has a very good voice but lacks something to stand out in a crowd. He does a pretty good job but just lacks that presence in the band needs to be perfectly honest. At times I felt I was listening to a Grunge-like vocalist and this just didn't click with me unfortunately. You have some pretty good guitarists and decent solos here and there but nothing groundbreaking. They have some great chorus support but it's nothing we haven't heard before. There is work to be done and sometimes songs lack that energy that guitarists are supposed to give. There isn't much progression from the previous album although it's a bit more violent in tone but the production is still really good. The instruments sound so clear and crisp. The production value is top notch. They took their time on this one and 6 years is a long time between albums but it was worth the wait.

The album lacks the energy that we usually attribute to the genre (or sub-genre in this case) and it does hurt the overall quality of this release. The atmosphere is awesome, the keyboards are haunting in their own right and you have some very capable musicians. The vocalist lacks something that I can't put my finger on but it's still an enjoyable ride. They mix Grunge, Nu Metal and Death Metal elements to make an interesting album with a lot of upside. They have a lot of potential and they are absolutely scratching the surface on what they can deliver on a larger scale.
