Azure

"Azure" draws inspiration from the boundless sky – its sheer vastness, soaring heights, and infinite distances. It's about offering a fresh lens, inviting observers to glimpse their world, humanity's cozy cradle, Planet Earth, from a whole new angle. In a world we often take for granted, our aim is to whisk listeners through the endless blue and beyond. Imagine soaring above, seeing everything in its grand totality. From this cosmic viewpoint, everything shifts. Priorities re-align. Our hope? That humanity truly embraces a shared identity, cherishing our rare and irreplaceable blue planet. Let's ditch the old, outdated agendas and unite to launch ourselves beyond our current limits, towards the stars that are our ultimate destiny.
The album has ten songs, and "Around the Sun" is first. It has a nice combination of weight and melody, and what began as somewhat tentative transitioned to hardened with the harsh vocals. They let the melody flow, gaining steam as it moves. "Take Control" has a lot of energy, both from the fast moving riff and the melodies. They save the big punch moments and much of the melody for the chorus. "Tiny Blue Stone" is where you can really pick up on the Alternative nature of the music, especially in the cadenced vocals, and the electronics are a nice addition. The title track begins with piano notes, and solemn tones. Azure is a shade of blue, and often symbolizes tranquility, openness, or the infinite. It's a tender and emotional offering with a memorable melody line.
"Dropping Violence," as you might expect from the title, has more weight behind it. Crunchy guitar riffs combine with firm drumming and vocal harmonies. "Saturn's Leaving" showcases the band at their heaviest in my opinion. The riffs are firm, the drumming hard, and they tow melodies with it. The melody soars in the chorus despite the hardened riffs. "The Path" has a deeper groove it, fueled by a radical guitar riff and thick bass notes. Again, vocal harmonies in the chorus keep it from diving over the deep end. "Meteors in the Dark" is the final offering, and they push a lot of melody along with the rocking sound. Hankering for a guitar solo? The lead break here is done very well.
In sum, this was a fun album to listen to, and sometimes even we Metalheads need that in our life. The music wasn't overly complicated, overly serious, or overly heavy, although it did have some of these moments. Instead, the band chose to focus on two key ingredients in good music…melody and harmony. Indeed, what a fun ride is was.
