Necronomicon - The Final Chapter album cover

Bearing a career that spans almost 4 decades, NECRONOMICON, has continuously made a name for themselves within the genre; known for not wanting to sit still the band has managed their 10th release, The Final Chapter, which has been made both as a reflection of their previous endeavors and a metaphor for the burgeoning pages of the band's pursuits whose contents have to be writ.

The album opens up with the intoxicating track, "I Am The Violence," a heavy hitting track that commences with rhythm guitar playing the main riff under a phaser or flanger before the band joins in full; the intensity of the song is immediately noted as it never slows or otherwise hesitates and only increases in force as it bears its Thrash roots with pride. The title track, "The Final Chapter," is only the second track on the album and does quite well in making a statement both in its composition and placement; the repetition of the line "give me fire" is one of the elements that set in deep in listening as the delivery ranges from being exacting and demanding to unsure and pleading creating an interesting dynamic in a manner not oft done. "Purgatory" opens up with a quote taken straight from the 2007 film Gabriel, the clever sampling feeds directly into a ringing guitar as the leads play off of one another leaving the band to jump around the beats with staccato-the verse seamlessly blends into and accompanies the blistering instruments that then feed into the chorus whereupon the cycle begins anew. "World On Fire" opens on an astoundingly simple rhythm being constructed of a single palm muted note accented with the rest of the band in tandem with the wailing vocals. The song digresses into a more intense variant albeit with a similarly simple rhythm; the chorus changes melody and rhythm to something more slow and esoteric before jumping right back into the carnage of the verse repeating unto the song's completion. With its dynamic range of tracks "The Unnamed" was sure to wrest attention unto itself being something more subtle and relaxed in comparison to its predecessors it bounds in and out of ferocity.

This album features an amazing collection of instruments all laser focused on creating the best sound they can with one another and achieves such in grand measure-most impressively is the sheer ambition of the performance as never once does anyone hesitate or relent in even the smallest amount creating a torrent that carries the listener from the raw extreme of "I Am Violence" to the brutal vehemence that is "The Stormreaper."

NECRONOMICON has made for themselves a breakout into something defining of sound, purpose, and motivation as The Final Chapter marks a kind of resurgence for the band into different trails. For any fan of the band prior, or any newcomer, they are sure to find immeasurable worth within the confines of The Final Chapter.
