Nasson - Scars album cover

Sometimes the less you know about an artist, the better it is. It will make you listen to whatever they have to offer with an absolute open mind. That is certainly the case with NASSON, who is a Chilean guitarist, songwriter, and now in-demand producer. He has recently come to the attention of hard rock and metal fans through his work on the latest CHAOS MAGIC album, "Furyborn" and the outstanding debut record from SINNER'S BLOOD"The Mirror Star". As he wanted to display his own playing and singing abilities, he decided that it would be time for him to record his own album. And being the person he is, he knew what he wanted and how he would shape and form it into just that what his mind would make him do. And boy, has he succeeded. I am very happily listening to the result of his efforts right now.

I must admit that I was amazed when I found out that "Scars" has been released by Frontiers Records, as even though it is very melodic, it also is a lot heavier that most of what usually sees the light of day by that label. This should be classed as Melodic Metal instead of Rock, as a lot of the riffs wouldn't go amiss with a lot of heavier bands on the planet. "Mother Moon" is a good example of a riff that will make a lot of very established bands very jealous that they weren't the one to create it and use it in such a brilliant way. The thing is that the way the keyboards are used plus the manner in which the voices on "Scars" sound are the reason the Rock moniker is still viable, but only just.

But the main thing that amazes me is how awfully great the songs are throughout the album. It doesn't matter which tune you listen to, you can only conclude that Nasson is a real talent, someone who absolutely deserves to be put is a large spotlight. I mentioned one song already, but there are many gems to be found. Just listen as to how the soft piano tones that start "Runaway" turn into a stomping Rock anthem. It's just another example at how good "Scars" is, and how much I hope that NASSON can keep this up and hopefully get even better over time. I will be contemplating that until the next release. Bring it on!
