Red Hill
Murmur

"Red Hill" is the vindication of a very specific place within our city and our land, exposing passages of its history and all the oblivion that rests upon it. Furthermore, it is an intimate retrospective through different eras and historical events, which takes the temple and monument to the Sacred Heart of Jesus as its central element and, in turn, as a catalyst for pain and hatred. The (EP?) has three songs; the title track, divided into three parts. "Part I: The Dead" is first. The soft chirping of birds leads the song off, followed by clean and solemn guitar tones. A distorted riff and harsh vocals join the fold for a spell, but in between, there are these wonderful atmospheric passages.
"Part II: The Execution" begins with a warning siren, the distant sound of gunfire, and a voice over a loudspeaker. Although their brand of Black Metal is aggressive, it's the solemn tones that draw me in. The clean guitar tones are hopelessly romantic, and they make my heart ache, in a depressing sort of way. "Part III: The Calling" is the final song, and it's lengthy, clocking in at over 11 minutes. The darkness that pervaded the first two songs seems to spread wider and deeper in this final piece. It's like a shadow cast over the entire land. It has a powerful and commanding sound. The sound grows wearier as it passes, until everything is sickened and diseased.
Pain? Yes, you will feel its sharp bite. Anger? Yes, you will feel its fire raging inside of you. The three songs carried a lot of emotion along with them, and like adding salt to a wound, they can easily revive any latent feelings you have tried to push down and lock away. This was an excellent release, and I would love to hear more.
