Sorrow Feeds the Silence
Mourn the Light

Connecticut heavy metal band Mourn The Light has delivered a powerful new record entitled Sorrow Feeds the Silence. At once a heavy band with blistering riffs, it also features a much softer side as well. Lyrics on this album are about struggle, but also triumph, and the music itself is very solemn. The vocals by Dwayne Eldredge hold tremendous power and driving force through this power metal band that has influences from metal of the 1980s. A driving force of raw power and raw emotion emanates from the very core of this band and this album, and it truly is a sight to behold.
The album opens with the solemn acoustic track Empty and Hollow, which has Dwayne singing over the beautiful sounds of an acoustic guitar with the sample of a thunderstorm layered in the background. This song is hauntingly beautiful. The sadness presented within Dwayne's vocal performance really makes you feel something, and the sounds of rain in the background add a certain atmosphere to this track. That track leads right into The Truth (Was a lie) which begins with blistering riffs and an epic guitar solo with frenetic drums in the background. Again, the vocals are extremely power and hit a chord emotionally. This song is much faster, but it's still very solemn and sad. In the middle of the track is slows down again with another guitar solo before the vocals kick back in. Doomed to Fall Forever, the forth track on this album, is a standout for me. The screaming guitars that open the track as well as the fast drumming in the background. Dwayne's booming voice stands out above the cacophony of instrumentation that layer this entire track as he sings about how "We had time to fix our mistakes, but now it's too late" meaning that we as humans have screwed things up tremendously, and now we must face the truth lest we fall.
When Dreams Die is another standout track on the album that opens with pulse pounding drums and driving riffs with squealing guitars from a solo which fades into a very rhythmic drum and guitar section. This song has a very catchy chorus and another astounding vocals performance from Dwayne. You can feel the energy which exudes from this band. Driving power chords drive this album to a remarkable finish in the track Forever Hollow. This is a solely instrumental track with the haunting melodic sounds of a keyboard in the background with the guitar riffs over top of it. It's only being told in instruments, but it's still a powerful song. And honestly, a band that can make you feel emotion when nobody is singing does a very good job.
Overall, this album is incredible. Incredible production, vocals performances, instrumentation, and a very louder than life bombastic sentiment gives this album a luster that other bands of the same type don't have. The emotion as well which is showcased here is second to none.
