MOTHER OF ALL is a one-man band fronted by multi-instrumentalist Martin Haumann. The style is Death Metal with Melodic and Progressive elements. The songs are varied, eclectic and always exploring the art form. Ultimately the inspiration is drawn from the deep cauldron that is Metal. For "Age of the Solipsist," Martin sought out the additional talents of Steve Di Giorgio on bass guitar, and Frederik Jensen on guitars. The album contains seven tracks.

"Autumn" leads off the album. It begins with clean guitar that turn into a heavier affair, with harsh vocals and thundering drums. Close to the half-way mark, it takes a clean pause, with audible bass notes. There is tension in the air. The heavy sound returns, with a little guitar solo that follow the melody like very well. "We Don't Agree" is shorter and faster, with galloping drums and some really tight instrumental work. Some Progressive element rear their head here, in the form of a shifting meter, but the melodies are more subtle. I really don't care for the shouted vocals.

"Curators of the World" is a quick, three-minute blast with some meter shifts that are really hard to keep up with. Again, the shouted vocals are just not my thing. I love harsh vocals, but of all the styles, shouting is my least favorite. It crosses the music over into the Thrash category for me. "Age of the Solipsist" begins with a steadier groove. It certainly has a different sound than the previous tracks. The riffing is more traditional. After the half-way mark, it slows to staccato guitars and then picks back up again, sprinting towards the finish line. "At the Edge of a Dream" is another shorter song, a common length for the Death Metal genre. If it wasn't for the occasional shot of melody or Progressive elements, this would be straight up Death Metal.

"Blood Still Owed" is yet another shorter song, with some riffs that you have heard before. The bass guitar work is outstanding, but the guitar work and vocals need some new energy injected into them. I love his attitude, but just am not much for the music here. "Feel the Pain" closes the album. It has a completely different sound, with a varied vocal approach. The bass guitar absolutely attacks, while the clean vocals offer something unique. This might be my favorite song on the album.

Overall, though Martin had the right idea, he was just off a bit in the execution. The shouting was perhaps the most off-putting element of the album for me. It makes the songs cross over into the Thrash or even Hardcore genres...two genres which I just do not like. There were some nice moments here, but overall, it just fell flat in the end. A little more melody, and some more Progressive elements would have really gone a long way here.
