She Walks By Moonlight
Moon Destroys

“She Walks By Moonlight” is the debut album from Moon Destroys. Juan Montoya (Ex Torche, MonstrO) and Evan Diprima (Gold Pyramid,ex Royal Thunder). The duo released their debut EP “Maiden Voyage” in 2020 with guest vocalists Troy Sanders (Mastodon) and Paul Masvidal (Cynic). When the duo realised they needed a more permanent vocalist Juan asked former MonstrO bandmate/singer Charlie Suarez who also did the synths and guitars for the album. The bands line up was completed in late 2024 by bass player Arnold Nese (Ex Sunday Driver) with Evan Diprima in charge of the mixing, producing & engineering. The mastering was down to Carl Saff (Sonic Youth,Melt Banana).
The title track is a acoustic led intro into the album with some trippy synth layers which starts the album leading into “The Nearness Of June” the lead single, which is a the heaviest track in terms of melody on the album, with Charlie Suarez delivering some hypnotic vocals.”Only” is the next track with a deep and distorted bassline, trippy and psychedelic guitar riffs giving that modern rock & grunge rock feel , “Set Them Free” is another track which has the same formula which will let your mind drift.”A Song For Jade” is another acoustic led instrumental passage of music which has a chilled, relaxing vibe and atmospheric too.”Losing Sleep” has a deep bass line Arnold Nese's dynamic addition to the melody and rhythm blending with the guitar riffs& touches. “Echoes (The Empress)” is a welcome more upbeat track on the album,as it was beginning to sound a bit too repetitive for me personally, the guitar work sounding brighter & less distorted in places a track which has a raw sound and appeal.”She Walks By Moonlight” ends with “Sway” which has prominent drum beats which add to the psychedelic guitar riffs & melody with vocals that could leave you in a trance.
“She Walks By Moonlight” is very hypnotic, trippy album which fans of grunge, stoner and psychedelic rock will love and appreciate. For me it was a mediocre listen with a couple of tracks which I liked but on a whole this album was not upbeat enough for me,and I feel this is more an album of an acquired taste.
