Hypocrisy
Misscore
When a group from the small town of Lubrza, Poland came together to form a band based around their influences within their world of music. Natalia Rygiel, the band's vocalist, who originally brought the idea up, got everyone together to work on a name. By late 2023 the group had settled on a name, focused on their sound and MISSCORE was created. From the quiet village just north of Prudnik, Poland you would hardly expect a Gothic Rock band to take root, but here we are.
With two previous releases leading up to their second full-length album “Hypocrisy” that gets released on the 29th November, 2024. But let’s not forget the single “F” released earlier back in September with a video to tease this new release. Currently being promoted by SanPR and released independently, their latest album is sure to impress you with their dark melodies and edgy riffs. With eight tracks that will take you through 25.06 minutes of a soundscape forged in darkness and emotion. I personally have never heard of these kats before, so let's dive in and see what they have to offer.
This album art has all the feels of an old horror film. Great color pallet chosen and concept art. Not sure if it is A.I., but it works. Blue tinged living room with an old school T.V sits center as an alien looking tentacle monster oozes down on top of the TV. An abstract colorful image is displayed on the T.V. The band's name sits upper center while the album name rests at the central bottom in a futuristic clean font.
The album opens with the track “F” that leads in with a solid Groove and Hip Hop beat. Soft vocals kick in and help set the pace as a solid progressive rock progression builds up the tone. The synth within the back helps to build the atmosphere as it kicks it up a gear shortly in with an industrial styled influenced Alt Rock. Moving on through the album, “Away” hits with an Industrial Alt Rock intro that leads into subtle soft vocals that are chalked with emotions. The synth adds a level of dynamics to the track. Decently paced, and with some good Alt Rock chord progressions. A trend that echoes throughout the album giving off an alt rock that can be tinged in Industrial rock at times.
Closing off the album with “Nothing 2 Say”, we are met with a chunky hard riff that breaks into a gentle cascade of soft vocals that carries on with subtle instrumental. A solid Alt Rock track that offers a dynamic soundscape. For a newer group these cats remind me of the late 90’s but with a more modern twist.
For a band that just hit the alt rock scene and just started to make a name for themselves, they have a solid sound. “Hypocrisy” does have all the levels in the right place and it does sound good, however I found that it just fell a bit flat in areas where they could have expanded more on. But if you like the dark elements of Alt Rock then this is for you. Their tones are often shrouded in Industrial to Gothic and they execute their style well. I would be curious to see what else they will come up with for future releases and hope to see this band grow. MISSCORE is making a new name and I am sure we have not seen the last of them.
