So for the final instalment in this trilogy of "Songs Of White Lion" comes "Volume III".Again Tramp reimagines another ten essential White Lion tracks bringing them back to life with more reimagining and respectful renditions, capturing their spirit while redefining their sound. For this project he is backed by his trusted bandmates Marcus Nand,Claus Langeskov and finally Morten Hellborn. From the raw defiance of "Fight To Survive," to the cinematic power of "Warsong," and the infectious rhythm of "Radar Love," this album is both a celebration and a reawakening. With an extensive worldwide tour in 2025 which concludes late November in his home country Denmark.
So for the final instalment of the "Songs Of White Lion" another ten reworkings & reimaginings featuring four tracks from the debut album "Fight To Survive" , four tracks from "Big Game" and finally two from "Mane Attraction".With Volume III the tracks are more deeper cuts from the White Lion back catalogue."Dirty Woman" the first of the Big Game reworkings has groove & sounds sexy with some swagger with Marcus Nand delivering some great guitar work."War Song" from Mane Attraction has the reworking with a chilled more laid back feel, with Hammond Organ touches giving the track a more 70's Classic Rock feel with a deep toned bassline."Fight To Survive" from the debut has a lot more balance and maturity vocally to the original, with some solid guitar riffs."She's Got Everything" has more of that swagger like the opening track with lots more s razor sharp guitar work. The reworking of another track from Fight To Survive "In The City" is darker lyrically, again the new version has been given a 70's vibe with the melodies.Staying on the darker side another cut from Big Game "If My Mind Is Evil" has a much darker twist than the original,
Mike Tramp's lower key vocals give the rework a more haunting vibe, which is a much better take of the original for me."Cherokee" sounds a lot more fresher & cooler than the original, one of my favourite White Lion tracks which is about how the Cherokee tribe fought against their invaders."All Burn In Hell" has some superb riffs in the lead in,a track which is very nearly a carbon copy of the original, but to suit Tramps vocals it is tuned down a little which gives the track another spin, also being very effective."Don't Say It's Over" another Mane Attraction cut is more uplifting with the tempo, melodies, plus Nands creative guitar work although lyrically not a positive track, but a great reworking none the less.Although not an original White Lion track a cover "Radar Love" the last track on the album, shows that Mike Tramp still has a great voice, with him still at the top of his game at 64 years young.
"Songs Of White Lion Vol III" is a good album with Mike Tramp proving that he can still deliver vocally 40 years on from the debut album. The vocals are more toned down from the originals, but still sound superb, with the reimagining of the tracks giving the tracks a new lease of life, backed by a great band.Volume III as I mentioned is more aimed towards the die hard White Lion fans (such as myself!) where as Volumes I & II contain the bigger hits.A very solid all round release to conclude this trilogy of albums, also a very enjoyable listen.
